Possible hernia: Your doctor is probably right--a "pulled muscle" may take days to heal, or may worsen if you repeat the behavior that caused the injury. Try a heating pad for this. However, hernias do occur, & may not be readily apparent on physical exam since there are so many different layers of abdominal wall.. I am having lower left abdomen pain. It's a sharp pain like a pulled muscle. It hurts when i cough, walk, and twist (more when i twist to the left).

Abdominal pain: The sharp nature of your pain and the fact that is worse with movement does sound like a pulled muscle. If you're having persistent symptoms however i would recommend that you see your doctor for a complete history and physical examination. ...Read more
