Get to er: Leg pains accompanied by shortness of breath is a pulmonary embolism until proven otherwise. Typically preceeded by a clot in the leg. Redness and swelling may occur. However if the clots are higher up in the pelvis the redness and swelling may not be apparent. Pts with hypercoagulable states are prone to spontaneous clotting and need lifelong blood thinners. Yes: If it hurts to breathe, we become much more aware of our breathing and this translates into a feeling of shortness of breath. Try some ibuprofen.
