Back pain w/ nerve 'pinching' can cause knee pain BUT a good examination / history can normally distinguish between back and related nerve pain and a primary knee problem (tendinitis, kneecap, etc.). My reccommation would be to see a board certified ORS if your symptoms persist. Best of Luck!! ...Read more

I thought I pulled my hamstring last week so I elevated & heat packed it and this morning I felt something pop behind my knee what is it? Can u help
First of all, ICE-: -not heat. Depends also if the pop was in the same area that hurt when U "pulled " it. If it is & the pain is more severe & interferes with walking or standing, it could B an avulsion of the attachment @ the knee, which is a much more serious injury & frequently requires surgery. ...Read more

Hello I pulled a muscle in the back of my leg on Monday but I have woke up this morning and my ankle has swelled up?

Best to Check..: I don't know just how many days ago Monday was. It would be helpful to know if the muscle you "pulled" was in the lower leg or the upper leg. The lower leg might possibly involve a calf muscle injury or an Achilles tendon problem. The swelling might be the body's reaction to a tear or instability in the tendon. To remove all doubt, it would be wise to have it evaluated for other possibilities. ...Read more

If I woke-up this morning with leg pain, should I be concerned? It feels as if I may have pulled a muscle, but could I actually do that in my sleep?
You:
You haven't said anything about your age, gender, medical history, or overall state of health, so it's a little tough for me to narrow things down, but there are some things that would explain this.
Given the snowfall in seattle over the past few days, have you maybe been doing some shoveling of snow or maybe some skiing or other vigorous physical activity? Could you have slipped while walking on the ice? Overuse of muscles or trauma might cause pain that wakes you up. A muscle cramp might also cause this type of localized pain.
If you have a history of vascular disease, or are at risk for it (older age group, high cholesterol, smoker or diabetic) then this could represent a blocked blood vessel. Do you have ongoing pain? Numbness? Are your symptoms increased with exercise? If so, then you should be evaluated for compromised blood flow.
