Folliculitis: This could be an inflammation of the hair follicles in that area, very common especially if you shave the area. Benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid usually clears that up. Folliculitis?: This is obviously some sort of bacterial infection in the skin, like folliculitis or pimples, maybe due to staph or strep. This become a lot more common in the modern era when young people shave their pubic areas. Since they are painful and large, you should see a doctor; you might need an antibiotic. In the past months I've been getting bumps that feel like knots underneath my skin in the pubic area. They're not painful. What could be the cause?
Stop shaving, 4 now: Razor-bumps result from shaving/cutting the hair too short, thus causing the hair to get stuck under the skin causing the bumps. Basically these are trapped hair follicles. Use of some exfoliating skin lotion/cream may help the trapped hair to come through to surface and thus resolve the bumps. So, stop shaving too closely will reduce this.
