Precocious puberty is a medical condition in which development of secondary sex characteristics (breasts, testicular enlargement) occurs before age 8 in girls and age 9 in boys. Often times, especially in girls, the cause is unknown and not harmful to the child. However, all children with precocious puberty should see a doctor to rule out harmful causes such as cancer.
