A best practice for cognitive psychotherapy for someone with depression whose depression and anxiety worsen is to increase the frequency of sessions/increase intensity. Generally, more intensive psychotherapy is helpful for those with severe, worsening, or relatively acute symptoms/conditions.

Any psychotherapy self-help books?

What context?

Psychotherapy
If psychotherapy is a process between a therapist and someone seeking help, "self-help" seems to be contradictory. While a book may give valuable information, the feedback given in therapy seems much more germane. A prominent tenet of therapy is that "Self can't see self". Have an experience of real psychotherapy. Don't sell yourself short! You are worth more than that!

Can you undergo psychotherapy online?

Some approaches to psychotherapy that are more standardized (some might say "cookbook") can be done by chat or similar text channels, but in my opinion a lot is lost by not meeting in person. Some therapists use Skype or other video apps. This is clearly better than text, but I'd still reserve it for situations when in-person psychotherapy is impossible. Many subtleties are lost.

"Strength-based" describes the main focus of the psychotherapy. It attempts to create hope and change through focus on the person's strengths, as well as those of others. Many people overlook the positive characteristics they have, overemphasizing faults. "Problems" are explored of course, but the focus is finding realistic, effective solutions and nurturing existing capacities for growth.

Primarily aimed at addition, the Matrix Model is an outpatient model of treatment focusing on behavior (rather than underlying 'issues') and accountability to therapist, with whom a positive therapeutic alliance is crucial (perhaps the lynchpin of the entire model). Other aspects of the model are a potpourri of common interventions, e.g. psychoeducation, 12-step, family involvement, etc.

Though controversial, I find Phone/Skype sessions (as main service or complementary to face-to-face) very helpful in many instances: 1)if high anxiety is a central issue that could get in the way of a patient making it to the office 2)if transportation is an issue 3)if patient is out of town and needing to keep up with therapy process 4)for 2nd opinion, treatment planning or general consultation
