Can you undergo psychotherapy online?

It's controversial: Some approaches to psychotherapy that are more standardized (some might say "cookbook") can be done by chat or similar text channels, but in my opinion a lot is lost by not meeting in person. Some therapists use skype or other video apps. This is clearly better than text, but i'd still reserve it for situations when in-person psychotherapy is impossible. Many subtleties are lost.

What are benefits of phone psychotherapy?

Several. For many...: Though controversial, I find phone/skype sessions (as main service or complementary to face-to-face) very helpful in many instances: 1)if high anxiety is a central issue that could get in the way of a patient making it to the office 2)if transportation is an issue 3)if patient is out of town and needing to keep up with therapy process 4)for 2nd opinion, treatment planning or general consultation.

What is strength-based psychotherapy for?

Strength-based: "strength-based" describes the main focus of the psychotherapy. It attempts to create hope and change through focus on the person's strengths, as well as those of others. Many people overlook the positive characteristics they have, overemphasizing faults. "problems" are explored of course, but the focus is finding realistic, effective solutions and nurturing existing capacities for growth.

What's the matrix model of psychotherapy?

What's the matrix model of psychotherapy?

Addiction treatment: Primarily aimed at addition, the matrix model is an outpatient model of treatment focusing on behavior (rather than underlying 'issues') and accountability to therapist, with whom a positive therapeutic alliance is crucial (perhaps the lynchpin of the entire model). Other aspects of the model are a potpourri of common interventions, e.g. Psychoeducation, 12-step, family involvement, etc.

How does a typical psychotherapy appointment proceed?

Therapies differ: It depends on the type of psychotherapy. "dynamic" therapists encourage you to say anything that enters your mind (and don't speak much themselves). The therapist listens for patterns and underlying feelings, helping you understand yourself better. "cbt" therapists give "homework" exercises to help you un-learn unhealthy thoughts. Both kinds usually meet with you 45-50 min, once weekly.

If I have dr episodes, then usually psychotherapy and meds are recommended, but is there an alternative from a christian perspective?

Is this the venue?: Jesus said, "Render unto psychiatry the things that are psychiatric, and unto God the things that are God's." Or if he didn't, he would have. He was a sensible Jewish boy, and very good to his mother. I'm curious why you raise this question here instead of with someone in the clergy in your particular flavor of faith. Wouldn't THEY be more likely to have an answer?

Any psychotherapy self-help books?

What context?: If psychotherapy is a process between a therapist and someone seeking help, "self-help" seems to be contradictory. While a book may give valuable information, the feedback given in therapy seems much more germane. A prominent tenet of therapy is that "self can't see self". Have an experience of real psychotherapy. Don't sell yourself short! You are worth more than that!

Do soldiers get free psychotherapy?

Do soldiers get free psychotherapy?

Active armed service: Active armed service members are covered for psychotherapy services through their military health insurance benefits and often do not have a copayment if they see a psychotherapist in the network. You can find out who is in your network by going to the insurance provider list. For example: if you have Tricare and search for behavioral health for the zip code you would see a list of providers.
