Psychogenic Polydipsia Signs

Yes: Complications of psychogenic polydipsia include incontinence and enuresis, bladder dilation and hydronephrosis, renal and congestive heart failure, and osteoporosis and associated pathologic fractures. Diagnosis is one of exclusion. Other medical causes of polydipsia, polyuria, and/or hyponatremia need to be ruled out. ...Read more
Drinking 2.5 liters overnight-noon and urinate a lot. I stop drinking water around noon and then concentrate heavily for 10hrs. Should i space my water out? I'm diagnosis psychogenic polydipsia.
Space it out: I would agree that spacing out water would affect your frequency of urination. If that doesn't change things, you may need to see a doctor to run other tests to make sure it is behavioral or psychogenic as you suggest. Also make sure to avoid caffeine as this can affect your urination as well. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have HkPP & hypoglycemia. But I have excessive thirst & urination. I need water by my side up to 2 gallons a day. Secondary psychogenic polydipsia??
Possibly but largely: unfamiliar territory for the vast majority of physicians, including myself, because HkPP is so rare. While thirst, voiding & body control are under brain control 24/7, the mechanisms remain poorly understood & many theories long promoted which do not fit many clinical situations. Thus whether more psychological vs. neurological remains a largely inseparable distinction unless can test some way ...Read more
Misdx of diabetes insipidus, diagnosis now is psychogenic polydipsia. Am on water restriction, how long until my urine frequency slows down. Currently every 2hr or so.
Classic causes: But many patients have taken to consuming large amounts of water due to perception that this is valuable for their health. An internist is ideal to figure this out. ...Read more
My teen has polyuria and polydipsia and I was wondering if that is all they used to diagnose him?
In hospital w/supposed di. Currently on water depravation test. 4hrs in volume has lessened greatly and urine is concentrating. Dr suggests polydipsia?
H2O Depriv Test & DI: Yes. The ability to concentrate to that extent would be unheard of w/ central or nephrogenic di. Are they/or have they done any other tests, besides the obligatory urine osmolality before the test? Did they ever do an ADH (vasopressin) serum level? They might not need to, depending on the outcome of your current tests. Let me know how it goes. Remember, if you haven't already, use my "secret code". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
No. : Polyuria is the production of large amounts of dilute urine & polydipsia is elevated fluid intake; usually due to fluid losses from polyuria. These are just symptoms of a disorder & several different disease processes can cause this, with diabetes a common & important one. Diabetes is diagnosed by testing blood sugar levels. Other more rare causes are diabetes insipidus & psychogenic polydipsia. ...Read more
A 50 year old man always feels bitter taste ..
Polydipsia due to dryness in his mouth .. Also a thick whitish layer on his tongue ..
Mouth symptoms: Taste disturbances can be caused by medication or vitamin deficiencies. Polydipsia can be caused by many conditions, including diabetes or salivary gland problems including sjogren's syndrome and others. The thick white layer on your tongue is vague and nonspecific. If your symptoms persist, see your physician for evaluation. Good luck! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
After water dep test dr said I have polydipsia. Even after 1 day of water restriction still urinating every 2hrs. When will it stop? Afraid of dehydration.
How much urine: You may be urinating every 2 hours due to bladder spasms, small capacity, bladder infections, inability to empty well with overflow. None of these would be treated with fluid restriction and you would continu to have symptoms. It is possible you have washed out the solute in the kidney by drinking too much and this may take a week to normalize and you will continue to have large urine outputr. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Can echos show pulmonary hypertension if you don't have it just because your body is full with fluid? I have polydipsia & changing pulmonary pressures
Interesting question: Elevation of pulmonary pressures can result from volume overload, particularly when there is left heart failure. A normal right heart, however, can compensate for increased volume for a period, preventing increases in pressure. When persistent stresses lead to structural changes in the cells of the right heart, it cannot compensate further and increased pressure results and by echo indices of PHT ...Read more
Can my heterozygotes status of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (21-Hydrolaxe deficiency, salt-wasting) explain hirsurtism & symptoms like polydipsia?
Maybe: Hydroxylase deficiency is actually a continuum, and there are many alleles. A workup is probably not worthwhile. Manage unwanted body hair with electrolysis or lasers -- you're doing yourself a favor. If your urinalysis (chemical, sediment), renal functions (BUN, creatinine) and concentrating ability (SG >1.020) while thirsty) are normal, I would not recommend further studies. ...Read more
