What is better for anxiety, depression, fatigue, and insomnia? Prozac, remeron, (mirtazapine) or celexa? Or maybe other?

Depends on person: All of the medications you mention can be highly effective. It can take awhile to find the one that has the best benefit with fewest side effects. At present, it's trial and error. We have no tests to match person to best antidepressant--although that is an area under active study. ...Read more

Been taking Prozac (fluoxetine) for two weeks. 20 mg. Recently experiencing insomnia. Took it before and don't remember this effect. Does it go away?

It should: This may be a component of anxiety or major depression, and should improve with continued ssri use. Also, Prozac along with zoloft tends to be more activating, so if you are taking it at night, try taking your Prozac first thing in the morning. Alternatively, you could try to switch to a more sedating ssri like Celexa or paxil (paroxetine). Either way, you should discuss with your doctor. ...Read more

How long for Prozac (fluoxetine) start up side effects (anxiety, insomnia)to go away? Started at 10, up 10mg a week for two months, been at 80 just over four weeks

How long for Prozac (fluoxetine) start up side effects (anxiety, insomnia)to go away? Started at 10, up 10mg a week for two months, been at 80 just over four weeks

Talk to your doctor: Unless the condition being treated is OCD, a dose of 80 mg/day of Prozac (fluoxetine) is excessive. For depression or anxiety, a dose of 20 to 40 mg/day for more than 4 weeks is considered an adequate therapeutic trial for Prozac (fluoxetine). If primary symptoms have not resolved at this dose/duration, it's prudent to re-assess the diagnosis and to consider at a different treatment strategy. ...Read more

My cousin has been on Prozac (fluoxetine) for years. Said she can't 'cry' and has insomnia but she wants to stay on it. Is emotional apathy common with ad?

Occasionally a: Patient complains about emotional blunting. However, I have found that some of the patient's that take it for anxiety - have just gotten addicted to chaos ; anxiety. They feel lost without it. They may define what would be a normal emotional state for most as inability to have emotions. Your cousin should discuss this w her psychiatrist so that medications can be optimized - especially if she has. ...Read more

Insomnia bad, i put on Prozac 10 mg and trazadone 50 mg. Taken 2 days. I was taking serqouel 50 mg & worked for a while but stopped working. Dr. Said stop seroquel (quetiapine) since given new meds, what do ido?

Maybe more trazodone: You have to talk to your doctor about what to do. We can't advise or treat you over the internet. But here's something to consider: seroquel (quetiapine) 50 mg is stronger than trazodone 50 mg. The latter is usually a better choice for insomnia, but the dose may need to go up. Prozac (fluoxetine) may help depression or anxiety that interferes with sleep, but it takes a few weeks to work. Good luck. ...Read more

I'm still taking seroquel 50mg at night. How long will i feel the bad effects (anxiety, insomnia) Effexor (venlafaxine) and Prozac has caused since stopped taking

It depends.: Stopping antidepressants can cause a "discontinuation syndrome" that people mistake for withdrawals because the symptoms include nausea, sleep disturbance irritability and a flu-like symptoms hence these medications should done gradually. The length of the symptoms will vary depending on how high a the doses were and how long you've been taking them. Seroquel (quetiapine) helps with sleep. ...Read more

Could reason from insomnia be due to abilify (aripiprazole)? Only took 5 mg but. Three days later took Prozac with seroquel and read Prozac increases half life abili

Yes: Prozac does increase the blood level of abilify (aripiprazole). Especially if you get restless legs you can develop insomnia. I have however seen people develop insomnia from Abilify (aripiprazole) even without having restlessness. Best wishes. ...Read more

I quit Prozac (fluoxetine) after 10yrs. Suicidal ideation, depression, and insomnia decreased post-prozac but anxiety increased. How can I treat anxiety now?

Other treatements: There are two different approaches to treating anxiety, even after 10 years. Psychotherapy is a very effective option. Sticking with medication, there are other medications besides Prozac that treat anxiety and depression. A different ssri, such as zoloft (sertraline) or Celexa is an option, as well as choosing a medication from a completely different class, such as remeron. ...Read more

I'm taking prozac (fluoxetine) for OCD and I felt ok but it caused insomnia+anorexia, is it ok to take mirtazapine to eat more and fall asleep fast?

Not unusual: Combining two antidepressants to address symptoms is not unusual, especially if they have different mechanisms of action that influence each other synergistically. However, the timing of medication can affect impact of potential side effects. Recommend discussing any concerns with taking more than one medication for your particular condition with your doctor. Hope this is helpful. All the best. ...Read more

Seroquel (quetiapine) s/e?: See your psychiatrist to assess for side effects asap. Seroquel (quetiapine) can cause a physical restlessness with pacing, "restless legs" type of agitation that is often mistaken for "anxiety." This side effect can be treated, but needs to be evaluated by your doc face- to- face. Ask your psychiatrist to assess for this side effect and if present to consider a lower dose or specific med to help with this. ...Read more

It depends upon: upon several factors, and without knowing more about you it’s hard to say. You may wish to speak to your prescriber and ask these specific questions. Prozac and Elavil are different types of antidepressants, and Klonopin (clonazepam) is a benzodiazepine; none of them are specifically for insomnia, but may cause sedation which may be why you were instructed to take them at night. Good luck! ...Read more
