If we need to control GAD&SAD with fewer possibility of weight gain and drowsiness so which combo more compatible: (BUSPAR/PROZAC) or (BUSPAR/ZOLOFT)?
It depends: Everyone is different so a trial and error attempt is often required. How about buproprion (Wellbutrin) and Buspar (buspirone)? SAD also can respond to light therapy so don't leave that option out. Also some patients with a diagnosis of GAD have other issues going on. Commonly they will have aspects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which can benefit from specific therapy. ...Read more

Common Tx: Your complaints are often treated w/ such medications. Side effects of many sorts may occur and you need to report them to Dr immediately for adjustments. Effectiveness varies for people but all studies support adding CBT therapy to optimize outcome and minimize or replace the drugs. Work closely w/ Dr and a therapist to learn skills for a lifetime! ...Read more

I am taking Buspar (buspirone) and Brintellix...is this combination safe. I just read where I should not be taking Prozac with Brintellix.
Same issues: It is NOT true that you cannot take two drugs that act on the serotonin system at the same time, only that you have to be CAREFUL, and that the dose of both drugs should be on the lower side, and they should be raised more slowly by lower increments. Also, you should be on lookout for symptoms of serotonin syndrome - anxiety, agitation, tremor. Talk to your doctor/pharmacist for better advice. ...Read more
Have started Buspar (buspirone) 5mg twice daily as initial dose with Prozac 20mg that I am already taking. How soon should be the Buspar (buspirone) increased to 10mg twice daily safely without increase in side effects?
Depends: That is a low starting dose. I use up to 30mg twice per day. I sometimes start people at 15mg per day so if you don't have any side effects in a few days you can increase. ...Read more
Thinking of asking for Buspar, (buspirone) so I don't have to be on Xanax, added to my Prozac and maybe an up on my dose (20 to 30). Thoughts?
Anxiety: Buspirone is approved for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and is sometimes used off-label for other anxiety disorders and depression. For some patients it is very effective. Higher doses of an SSRI such as fluoxetine (Prozac) are often effective for anxiety. I would ask your physician about both of these changes, but DO NOT stop the Xanax (alprazolam) on your own, this can be very dangerous. ...Read more
I have bi polar 1, im on Buspar (buspirone) Prozac and wellbutin. I am having a moderate panick attack and its getting worse. What's the best way to handle?
Get a second opinion: Your drug regimen does not include a mood stabilizer, which is essential in treatment of true bipolar disease. There is no good reason to be on two similar antidepressants, and wellbutrin (bupropion) has a known side effect of increasing anxiety. Prozac can be destabilizing in bipolar disease. The buspr doesn't seem to be doing a lot for your anxiety, but may work better if you change up the antidepressants. ...Read more

What is the best anti anxiety depression med that has the least side effects. I did not care for buspar, (buspirone) celexa, or Prozac. Something not 2 addicting?
Depends on you: Every patient is different and will respond better to certain medications while others may not respond well to a particular drug. Best to talk to your own doctor about medicine for anxiety/depression but other drugs such as wellbutrin or Effexor (venlafaxine) might also be useful for you. Of course exercise and good counseling are equally if not more important than any drug. Good luck! ...Read more
Take treatment for GAD by Prozac 40 mg, my GP wants add either Buspar (buspirone) or Wellbutrin to encounter side effects of Prozac, which the safe and ideal combo?
Buspirone: You may want to talk to your doc about a psychiatry referral since it sounds like (a)he may be in over their head. Buspirone is an anti-anxiety drug, but both Prozac and Wellbutrin (bupropion) can potentially exacerbate anxiety. There are many other potential options if Buspirone is not beneficial, but I would not abandon it before max dose of 60 mg/d. It should be taken 3-4 times dailu ...Read more

SSRI antidepresant: Its been around a while now, but pretty revolutionary when it first came out. It is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor most commonly used to treat depression.
