Provera Progestin Based Agent
When i got the Depo-Provera shot, i had a period/spotting for almost 2 months. Is it likely i'll have the same problem with mirena? (both progesterone based)
Depends: Many women start depo or Mirena at the wrong part of their cycle, often right before the start of their period. Since a drop in your Progesterone usually triggers the period, starting Progesterone at this time creates an imbalance which results in prolonged bleeding. Make sure to get the Mirena right after your period ends, or ask about adding estrogen for a short time if bleeding persists. ...Read more

You may want to consult with a doctor familiar with bioidentical hormones, e.g. A doctor who does complementary or integrative medicine. ...Read more

Try different BC: It's not true for everyone but Depo Provera (dmpa) can cause weight gain. This is my first and last time taking Depo-Provera provera how long will it take for the side affects and the bleeding to go away l?
Variable: Depo lasts longer than the 3 month injection schedule - it may take another 1-3 months for the effects to completely resolve. Sometimes adding in a small amount of estrogen can help "balance" the synthetic progestin only effects and make things more rapid/tolerable. Good luck. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
