I was prescribed advair; my ins. Does not cover it; substituted flovent; now my ins, does not cover that. Proventil (albuterol) is not working 4 my symptoms.?

Provnetil: Is a rescue inhaler, only to be used as needed or pre-exercise, not on a regular basis. Flovent and advair are maintenance medications which are both to be taken on a regular basis. Please see your doctor asap if your proventil (albuterol) is not working. ...Read more

Asthma: If you are having to use albuterol numerous times a day for shortness of then you would benefit from the steroid Budesonide which has been found to be safe in pregnancy. The greater harm is to not use medication that will keep you from having worsening asthma symptoms while pregnant. Take care if yourself and your baby. Always ask your doctors if you are not sure if a medication is safe. ...Read more

Absolutely: Proventil (albuterol) and atrovent (ipratropium bromide) are very commonly recommend to be used together for treatment of airway bronchospasm commonly seen in asthma or copd. I would caution that there are better, long-acting medications that provide better benefit if you are not well-controlled on proventil and atrovent alone. Any medication however may have side effects, and some children seem more sensitive to the fast heart rate, irritability, and agitation that can be encountered with its use. Probably: I think there would be some risk, but I am not aware of how well or how much these drugs are absorbed from the digestive tract. Your local poison control center could answer this question. And yes safety is critical. ...Read more

Yes: You need to see your obstetrician right away or go to urgent care or emergency room. If you are using your inhaler that much, then you need a steroid to be added to your daily regimen so that you don't run the risk of a full blown asthma attack which can harm you or the baby.
