Protruding Stomach: A protruding stomach may be caused by excess intra-abdominal fat (internal fat), excess subcutaneous fat (external fat), weak or stretched out abdominal muscles, hernias or intra-abdominal disease (eg. 21 month old has very hard protruding belly lately she is averaging 2 bm per day and they seem healthy but stomach is so hard. Sometimes seems painful?
Maybe: There are small hernias in the midline of the abdomen between the belly button and breast bone that can be very small and painful. They are however usually associated with a small lump under the skin, but may not be detectable due to obesity. See your doctor to check it out. May need an ultrasound or ct scan if it is severe, disabling pain. If it is a small hernia, it is probably not dangerous. ...Read more
See your doctor: If the shunt is protruding out of the abdomen and you can see it, you need to have it addressed by your neurosurgeon right away. If you are saying that you can see the shunt tubing under the skin traveling from the head down to the abdomen, that is normal. It looks like a ridge that travels beneath the skin. Two very different scenarios. If in doubt have it examined by your neurosurgeon. ...Read more

Spot fat loss does: Not occur naturally. By losing weight in general a certain amt will probably be abdominal fat. However, we don't get to chose what area of the body the fat is lost from. What can I do if my stomach after a c- section is still sticking out, some exercises that can help?
Cardio Mix: While sit-ups can increase abdominal muscle mass they will only minimially help you lose stomach fat, if any. To lose adipose tissue work on a cardio mix (walking, running, biking, swimming, circuit training, etc - mix it up). Keep in mind that you can not target one specific area of the body to loose weight, and over time the adipose will decrease in many areas of your body (stomach included). ...Read more
Does the intestine have to be pretruding through a weak spot in the abdomen wall for it to considered a hernia?
Why is my incision bulging? I had my 10th rib removed due to a "rib deformity acquired", though there was no injury. I woke up one morning after having gone to bed feeling fine, and had a rib sticking out of my stomach. Now, after having the rib removed
I can not make a diagnosis. Sometimes after surgery, the abdominal muscles may be weak in the area that the surgeon cut open. Because of the hole or weakness, you can see a bulge if internal organs or fat protrude trhough it. You would be most apt to see a bulge if you are bearing down (like coughing hard or lifting something heavy). This is called an incisional hernia. You need to contact your surgeon and notify him about your bulge.
You need to get emergency care if you are not able to gently push the bulge back through the hole and if the area becomes painful, you develop a fever or you start vomiting. The danger is that if a piece of one of your organs (like your intestine) protrudes out of a hernia and gets stuck there, it could get off from it's blood supply and the tissue could die. That would be very serious. Take care and let your surgeon know. ...Read more

Swelling after umbilical hernia repair usually reflects a seroma and not a recurrence of the hernia.
If the procedure was done laparoscopically a seroma is almost always present.
Seromas that last more than 2-3 weeks can be aspirated with minor side effects.
In general most seromas resolve spontaneously.
A swelling after an open repair indicates a small amount of blood rather than seroma and usually also resolves spontaneously. ...Read more
