Famotidine is an h2-receptor blocker that diminishes acid production, whereas Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that nearly extinguishes acid output. If you have acid reflux, less acid means better relief--so Pantoprazole would be a better rx choice. No drug is perfect, so discuss pros & cons of each drug with your doctor. ...Read more

Not at all: No they are all, as you said PPI's and appear to provide similar relief. Not common choices: For Panic Disorder, those medications are not usually prescribed. They are for major depression and gastric acid problems respectively in most cases. Drugs are used 'off label' more and more, so this may be a new choice. Do take the opportunity to clarify w/ the Dr who prescribed. Yes, however...: Until researching this i did not know that Protonix (pantoprazole) can indeed cause a false positive for thc, the chemical tested in marijuana drug screens. However, if you are taking protonix (pantoprazole), (pantoprazole) tell those administering the test first & they can perform further tests to distinguish thc from protonix (pantoprazole). If you test positive, saying you used Protonix (pantoprazole) will not work unless they actually detect its metabolites in you. ...Read more

I take multiple medicines and can never seem to get enough sleep medicines such as paxil, trazadone, clonozapan, singular, protonix , tricor, Lipitor (atorvastatin) ?

Reevaluate sleep: You can develop a tolerance to the sedating effects of medications such that they stop working to help you sleep. Have your doctor evaluate your sleeping problem. Maybe: First of all, stop drinking alcohol. If you have small gastric ulcers, and they are not related to either h. Pylori or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, then they should respond well to a ppi, like protonix (pantoprazole). If you still have relux symptoms, speak to your physician, and ask for a change of medication or for the ability to take it twice a day before meals. ...Read more
