Should i maintain the time gap while I am having antibiotic, if it is 3 times a day, is that mean 8 hrs exactly gap or 1 or 2 hrs before and after is ok?

Should i maintain the time gap while I am having antibiotic, if it is 3 times a day, is that mean 8 hrs exactly gap or 1 or 2 hrs before and after is ok?

Probably OK: The reason for the spacing is to maintain levels above the minimum bacteriostatic concentration for the particular organism being treated. Since Amoxicillin has a half-life of about one hour it should actually be taken every 4 hrs at minimum, but for a normally immune host it should be ok. If you are treating acute bronchitis this is probably worthless anyway since over 95% are due to a virus. ...Read more

How long before antibiotics heal cellulitis? My doctor said I should feel better in a few days. Well it’s been three days and i still feel horrible and my arm is still red and painful. Should i wait a little longer for the drugs to work or should I call m

What's the cause ?: Cellulitis is basically a visible inflammation (itis) of the skin and soft tissues (red, hot, swollen and tender) . It can be caused by many things including sunburn (radiation), trauma (sprained ankle) or poor vein circulation (stasis dermatitis). It need not be caused by bacteria. If you have repeated episodes of this, get to a wound care or vascular specialist, the diagnoses you have is wrong. ...Read more

Husband works in health field had testing came back as having antibodies to herpes 1 what does that mean or me he has no signs of anything ?

Past exposure: The vast majority of adults have IgG antibodies to Herpes 1. The odds are strong that you do as well. This just means that years ago, probably in childhood, he (like almost everyone) was exposed to that virus. He may (or may not) have gotten a cold sore. Most people with healthy immune systems keep it in in check & never get cold sores, but some do when under stress. If no symptoms not contagious. ...Read more

I've been having extremely foul smelling gas after antibiotics . Now i feel gassy & toxic throughout the day & constantly leaking odor. Help plz!?

Probiotic therapy: Antibiotics kill off the good bacteria in your digestive system, allowing "bad bacteria" to proliferate. Good bacteria are critical to digestion. If they are not present digestion is disrupted and digestive problems, such as odor and gas, can result. The solution is to consume probiotic supplements or foods such as greek yogurt and sauerkraut. Good bacteria in probiotics rebalance your system. ...Read more

Sinus puncture (extremely painful, 12 more sessions to go) plus antibiotics with cold/respiratory sympt and tiredness. Before only had light sore throat for 3 weeks and asthma. Appropriate treatment?

Stop the torture: This used to be done about 40 years ago. No more puncture. Get a ct sinus to find out what the problem is. Then make sure your nasal mucosa is not swollen. See an allergist to find out what the trigger is and whether you have an immune defect. You may also try irrigating the sinuses with saline on a daily basis. Doxycycline is not the drug of choice. Need new doctor. ...Read more

You : You should see a doctor. The most likely consequence at this point of the spider bite is an allergic type reaction and/or an infection. Sometimes they are hard to tell apart and they can co-exist. So see a doctor. In the meantime, as regards the swelling, try to keep your hand elevated i.E elbow bent hand pointed towards the ceiling. Best of luck. ...Read more

Help, m, 57 in suspense, qualitative HCV PCR result after three days, hep c antibody at 14 (cut off of 1). Alt, serum albumin, protein, CBC all normal.

Result?: Your scenario reminds us that even if an hcv antibody test is positive, it is mandatory to check hcv RNA (viral load) to see if someone actually has active infection. About 25% of people will have spontaneously cleared infection soon after being exposed (and many people were exposed and cleared 20 - 30 years ago). ...Read more

Hiv test can catch up antibodies at three months. But which category of people show up antibodies after six months? Why it takes six months for them?

No possible answer: The way antibodies are formed and tested can vary from infection to infection and from one human to another. There is no right or black and white answer to this question. The answer would be meaningless in your individual case. Again why are you worrying so much when you can get a test today to close up all of your angst? ...Read more
