Will supplementing a lower protein semi-vegetarian diet with whey protein powder improve immune function?

Will supplementing a lower protein semi-vegetarian diet with whey protein powder improve immune function?

Probably: This depends on sufficiency of protein in your diet but deficiency of Amino Acids is not unusual ; grows more common as we age, as most over age 60 produce insufficient hydrochloric acid, needed to digest protein. Low protein impairs immune function; whey is a superb source proven to increase glutathione, important for immune function. There are big differences in quality-see http://bit.Ly/1fpottv. ...Read more

Are calorie restrictions or low carb diets effective?

Are calorie restrictions or low carb diets effective?

Yes: By eating more fresh fruits and especially vegetables which are lower in carbohydrates compared to processed foods such as high calories such as cakes, you could lose weight by taking in less calories and feeling fuller. Calorie restriction or portion control is another way to lose weight. However, the smaller size of what youre eating may not be as satisfying as having more fruits and vegetables. ...Read more

Are low carb diets healthier than diets with whole grains, vegetables, fruit and lean proteins?

Are low carb diets healthier than diets with whole grains, vegetables, fruit and lean proteins?

Not necessarily: There is no single diet that is best for everyone. I believe it is wise to minimize sugars and simple starches, but i believe a diet with whole grains, vegetables, fruit and low-fat proteins is healthier than a strict low carb diet (which is relatively high in fat and protein). See http://drrandybaker.Com/2013/01/20/diet-and-health/ for my essay on the pros and cons of various diets. ...Read more

How are low-carbs diet vs low-calorie diet different?

How are low-carbs diet vs low-calorie diet different?

Protein: Low carbohydrate diets tend to emphasize higher amounts of protein to get into 'ketosis' (not the same as keto-acidosis). This is a 'fat-burning' state. Low carb diets must be low-calorie as well, however, to work. Low calorie-diets alone simply lower overall calorie intake but those calories could be in the form of carbohydrates, protein or fat. ...Read more

Is no carb all protein diet beneficial?

Is no carb all protein diet beneficial?

DANGEROUS, however:: A no carb diet would consist only of meat ; eggs; i don't know anyone who recommends this. It would result in many nutritional deficiencies, completely lacking vitamin c, fiber, flavonoids ; other phytonutrients essential for good health. There is lots of research showing benefits of a vegetarian diet but none on the benefits of no carb diet. However, many recommend a low carb diet. See comment:. ...Read more

Are "low glycemic" diets equally as effective as "low carb" diets?

Are "low glycemic" diets equally as effective as "low carb" diets?

Depends: With a low glycemic diet you still eat carbs but they are mostly complex ones like whole grains. A low carb diet usually restricts all carbohydrates including low glycemic carbs. All carbs have the same number of calories per gram, but high glycemic carbs will cause blood sugar to spike and Insulin to go up, and you might feel hungry right after eating. The best diet is one you can stick with. ...Read more
