Some patients have insomnia because they are born with it but most patients have insomnia secondary to another medical issue. Why do sleep aides (benadryl, ambien, sonata (zaleplon) ,lunesta, prosom, elavil) not work for me?
Not good sleep med: Sleeping pills should only be taken here and there, now and then, not everyday for weeks/months/years. Sleeping pills should be effective through the night and stop working by morning, which means they should have short half-lives. Prosom (estazolam) has a 10-24 hour half-life, so it is still in your system all day the next day and is not a good idea as a sleeping pill. ...Read more
A big day ahead, a lot of work, and have to get some good sleep. Is it effective to take estazolam tablets?
In my opinion, no.: Estazolam or "prosom" is an fda approved hypnotic agent meaning it promotes sleep. It has a rather long half life so it is still likely to be having some effects the next morning. For this reason it is also used to treat anxiety and for the same reason you may not wish to choose this sleep aid. Sporadic use of another hypnotic with a shorter duration of action might serve you better. ...Read more
