Pros Cons Of Metamucil
12 to48 hours: It start working in 12 to 48 hours, but can take up to 3 days to work.
No: Metamucil (http://www. Metawellness. Com/en-us/articles/about-metamucil/digestive-health) is a brand of fiber. Don't fall for the advertising. Instead, eat plenty of fruit, veggies & unrefined whole grains, enough to consume 35-45g daily. Check out http://www. Webmd. Com/drugs/2/drug-13722/metamucil-oral/details for more info. And http://goo. Gl/8iAEA3 for info re dietary fiber in general.
Accidentally took 1 tablespoon of Metamucil. Thought the measuring spoon said 1/2 teaspoon was 1/2 tablespoon will it be ok.?
No problem: A tablespoon of metmucil will do no harm. Relax and go about your life.
1 tablespoon of Metamucil a delcolax 1 day prier. Had squiggly weird bm first looked like than normal after is this from the laxat?
Probably, but...: Dulcolax (bisacodyl) is a stimulant laxative that works by increasing movement of intestines, helping stool to come out, assuming normal GI anatomy without inflammation, stenosis, extrinsic or instrinsic obstruction. Metamucil is a bulking agent. Used together, stools appear altered. But a change in bowels is a "red flag", like weight loss or blood in stool, that needs evaluation if persistent.
After accidentally taking a tablespoon of metamucil, had bm was fuzzy and one was squiggle and like a small piece of yarn shape. Normal?
How long is Metamucil ok to use. Currently, it's the only thing that helps produces a soft, BM. Thought about trying Align. Any thoughts?
Metamucil: Metamucil is essentially a fiber supplement to your diet, and it is safe to use it on a regular basis for the long-term. In fact, it is probably good for you to do so. Eating foods that are higher in fiber is a good idea also. If you increase your fiber intake, you should also increase your fluid intake. Good luck.
Why would U so think: Fiber, of both water soluble and water insoluble variety, provides health benefits. Fiber accelerates how quickly food transits through the gut. Fiber adds bulk to stool and improves bowel regularity. Fiber can be used as an adjunct to weight loss by filling you up without excess calories, and in so doing restricting fat intake. But too much fiber can make you gassy and increase stool volume.
Low FOD-MAP diet: The low fod-map diet identifies foods that may contribute to gassiness and bloating. Perhaps your future reduction of fod-map ingestants can be part of your greater effort toward healthier eating & drinking. Note that Metamucil may ferment in your gut to more gas. Be aware however that gassiness may be symptomatic of a bigger problem--see other HealthTap answers on the subject.
Difficult to test: A 43 yo would like to know how to test for allergy to metamucil. There is no standardized test for this rare allergy and in general medication allergy (especially rare allergies) are hard to test. I am not sure what the symptoms of your allergic reaction are, but you should see an allergist for further evaluation. The allergist may be able to perform a prick to prick skin test or oral challenge
Sure: Give it a try. Just remember that drinks and foods with dyes may cause coloration of stool.
That's an easy one!: There is no substitute for fresh fruits & vegetables. No commercial fiber product can replicate the antioxidant, mineral, & vitamin benefits of produce. On the other hand, some people tolerate raw vegetables poorly with bloating, gasiness. For these people, or when vegetables may not be readily available, fiber supplements may suffice for bulk. Distinguish water soluble versus insoluble products.
