Hr is always at 104-118 even when resting what could be the cause? Hbp; palpitations;hyperthyroidism; ekg normal medications: inderal (propranolol) 10mg twice a day

Hyperthyroidism: Your overactive thyroid is the cause. When that has been adequately controlled, your hr will normalize. The Inderal (propranolol) you're taking is the right drug but the dose is very small and clearly too small if your hr is still >100. Stay with your treating doc! ...Read more

Does anger elevates epinephrine? What is the best medication to treat people with high epinephrine. I heard that propranolol is good, is that right?

Interesting question: In the "fight or flight" scenario, there is a definite increase. However, having a "high epinephrine" level is difficult to understand. There are instances where certain tumors produce excess of this chemical. Your question about Propranolol is easier to answer. This agent is called a beta "blocker" it does not reduce the amount of Epinephrine but blocks its effects ...Read more

I put aside both Citalopram and Propranolol for 4 days but I had an evil days. My vision changed and I had nausea. How can I come off those medication?

Best way w/ Doc help: It's generally much better to wean these types of medication w/ medical supervision. But, it's not a perfect world. So, do it slowly and taper the Propranolol 1st. Cut mg dosage each 14days by the same step-down amount (i.e., 25%) until gone. If it's too fast, return to last week's dose and move on again. Only then, do the same w/ the SSRI. It will take time, but you'll be safe (and free!) Best. ...Read more

Can you recommend a medication to possibly try for my Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome? I'm on propranolol but to many side eff & I don't want ablation.

Can you recommend a medication to possibly try for my Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome? I'm on propranolol but to many side eff & I don't want ablation.

Get the ablation: There are many beta blockers. Atenolol has fewer side effects than Propranolol or metoprolol (lopressor). However, WPW is one of the causes of sudden death in young people. Medication is not reliable enough. Get the ablation and be done with it. You'll be glad you did (when you're telling your grandchildren about it). ...Read more

My doctor just completely abruptly stop all my medication klonopin inderal (propranolol) and reemron what do I do?

See a new doctor: Abruptly stopping all of your medication is not only going to be unhelpful, but sounds retaliatory. Did he explain to you why he did not give you something to replace it? Stopping Inderal (propranolol) suddenly can lead to rebound hypertension. Stopping clonopin can do the same and also lead to seizures and delirium not to extreme rebound anxiety. It is absolutely contraindicated. Stopping Remeron will make it very difficultfor you to sleep and if you were relying on it as an antidepressant can bring your mood crashing down. If you have a family practitioner I would recommend contact the family practitioner as soon as possible and ask to be slowly tapered off these medications and thatthe family practitioner take over your care until you can find a psychiatrist who will not do something like this to you. If things get really bad please don't hesitate to go to the emergency room or to the hospital. If it were me however I would not go back to see that psychiatrist again. ...Read more

Mom (88) on inderal (propranolol) for arrhythmia; what drug is a better choice? She's very confused; medication may be a cause.

Multiple: Inderal, because it is fat soluble, crosses into the brain and cause side effects like this. Newer beta-blockers, such as metoprolol, atenolol, bystolic, (nebivolol) among others, are water soluble, and do not enter the brain. Depending on the type of arrhythmia, calcium channel blockers such as verapamil or Diltiazem may also be choices. ...Read more

I'm on Fluoxitine, Pregabalin and Propranolol for aniexty and depression and Trazodone for sleep is it safe to take these medications together.

Yes.: It is potentially safe to use all of these meds for severe depression and anxiety disorders. The pregabalin and trazadone are both sedating, so you have to watch their timing or additive effects. The propranolol has a relaxing effect without much sedation and may be best used in low doses during the day for anxiety. The fluoxetine has long term action and reduces both anxiety and depression. ...Read more

Is it dangerous to take stimulants (ADHD medications) and beta-blockers (Propranolol) together? If so, why? Diff. Med. For BP and migraine prevention?

Theoretically yes: Practically probably not. This answer is based on the fact that if you are on a B Blkr and taking a symptathomimetic agent like a stimulant this could cause severe hypertension. Based on studies of people on B Blkrs who took cocaine or were given epinephrine for allergic reactions and this turns out not to be unfounded and not the case. If your BP is up see your Dr and review your medications. ...Read more
