Propranolol Before Colonoscopy
Should i take lisinopril and anti-depressants (lamictal, desipramine) while using prepopik before a colonoscopy?
Usually I have : My patients stay on their current meds with the exception of aspirin, coumadin, (warfarin) fish oil and vit e. But don't take your meds just before starting the prep as you will flush them out and thus will be ineffective. To be safe you should discuss this with your endoscopist in advance of the prep. ...Read more
Talk with the doctor: At your age it is unusual to have a colonoscopy ordered. The main risk from the ibuprofen is if they have to do a biopsy or if there were a complication extra bleeding could be expected. Talk with the doc but I doubt they'll cancel the procedure. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Not a regular benzo user. Took 1mg Ativan (lorazepam) hr before flight-panic & claustrophobia issues. Didn't sedate much. Would 2mg next time seem feasible?
CBT: Seek a cognitive-behavioral therapist who specializes in phobias. One method they use is systematic desensitization which slowly and incrementally brings the person closer and closer to the thing they are afraid of in slow, graduated steps that help make the anxiety more tolerable. ...Read more
Took 400mg of presc magnesium this am before starting colonoscopy prep. Noticed suprep has magnesium. Is it ok that i took magnesium supplement.
Probably ok: The magnesium supplement you took was probably eliminated during the bowel cleansing process, which uses a magnesium-based laxative such as magnesium citrate. The magnesium in the bowel prep isn't absorbed by the body but passes through the intestines and causes the bowel-cleansing cathartic effect. Check with your pcp or gastroenterologist. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Not a regular benzo user. Took 1mgAtivan hr before flight-panic &claustrophobia issues. Didn't sedate much so had beer 1.5 hrs later. That relaxed me?
Your question?: I'm not sure exactly what your question is. Benzodiazepines like Ativan (lorazepam) have a very similar effect on our bodies as alcohol, both acting on the GABA receptor. Alcohol and Ativan (lorazepam) have an additive effect. A single beer without Ativan (lorazepam) may not have had much effect but the combination apparently helped. One should be cautious combining Ativan (lorazepam) and alcohol but if you were still anxious I'm glad it helped. ...Read more
Can i continue taking Xanax, and Zoloft the day i start my bowl prep one day before my colonoscopy?
Can you take klonopin and/or Claritin (loratadine) after taking a i-123 pill for a next day rai uptake scan?
Why would bowel preps not work? Poor prep with colyte (polyethylene glycol). Now on 2 day prep starting w/ mag. Citrate. No bm after 9 hours. Followed directions exactly!
Starting out on Prozac (20mg daily), Zofran(8mg,twice daily), and Cyclizine (before bed) for gastroparesis, thoughts? Reglan (metoclopramide) didn't work out.
Yes: You should take it at the same time each day. The package insert says with or without food. ...Read more
Yes...: It is often recommended that one avoid anti-inflammatory drugs which may affect blood clotting before GI endoscopic procedures such as colonoscopy. But while allopurinol is taken for gout, it is not an anti-inflammatory drug. It reduces the production of uric acid, the substance responsible for gout inflammatory symptoms. You can continue taking allopurinol during your prep. Good luck! ...Read more
I have Panic Disorder with agoraphobia (got feared during MRI), taking Clonazepam 0.5 mg 3 times a day. Is it safe to take Clonazepam for long time?
It's not best RX: The best treatment for panic disorder is to prevent attacks with a combination of psychotherapy and antidepressant drugs, particularly SSRI/SNRI's like sertraline, citalopram, venlafaxine (and many others). Benzodiazepines produce tolerance, and over time the dose may need to be increased, and if they are stopped suddenly, a severe withdrawal can happen. Use of SSRIs regularly&benzos for attacks. ...Read more
Take 10mg Buspar (buspirone) am & pm. Moved pm dose from ~8 to 5 but then felt dizzy/faint after that dose ~.5 hr later. Twice. Never after am dose. Any ideas?
Half dose: I would try taking half a pill. Buspar (buspirone) is not a coated/long acting pill so should be fine. If scored you should be able to break in half. If not get a pill cutter. If that works you can ask your doc for 5 MG pills on your next refill. Buspar (buspirone) max dose is 60 MG daily and you can Take it every 4-6 hrs. Hope this helps ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Can you take 25mg Benadryl 12 hours after taking regular allegra?
I take toprol (metoprolol) XL 50 mg for blood pressure
Benadryl (diphenhydramine) Use: It should be "safe" unless you get too much sedation. Ask your primary care doc then take it only at night when you need to sleep anyway. There are numerous other (possibly more effective) options as well. Check with an ENT or allergy doc. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
