What is propoxyphene/acetaminophen?

Treat pain: but propoxyphene (or Darvon) is no longer available in the US. This product, which is chemically quite close to methadone, was felt by many authorities to be an expensive and potentially dangerous placebo, and many studies of darvon failed to show any real analgesic effect outside of the apap (tylenol) part. Expert opinions? Which is stronger, hydrocodone or propoxyphene?

"Apples to apples": Hydrocodone, probably, if one considers a standard pill. You have to keep in mind that potency ( "strength") of the drug, the ability to provide desired effect, is reflected in the amount ( mg or mcg) used. Is d-propoxyphene napsylate stronger or weaker than codein? Please advise!

Not sure why the ?: since propoxyphene has not been available legally in the United States for about 10 years now. It was taken off the market for 2 major reasons. One was that it simply didn't work. Codeine DOES work. Numerous studies showed that darvon compounds only worked because of the other things in them (aspirin, tylenol (acetaminophen) etc.) and that darvon alone was a placebo. Secondly, it had cardiac effects. ...Read more
