Acne is one of the most common skin conditions. It affects about 80% of adolescents. Acne starts as a blockage of the sebaceous glands followed by inflammation. It occurs in areas where there are lots of sebaceous glands, such as the face back and chest. The hallmarks of the condition are blackheads, whiteheads (closed comedones), papules, pustules, cysts, nodules, and sometimes scarring. Some options...: For treatment of acne, over-the-counter benzoyl peroxide gel/cream is quite helpful. If desired, a doctor can add an antibiotic gel/cream such as Cleocin (clindamycin phosphate) gel. If more help is needed, prescription retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gel can be used instead of benzoyl peroxide. Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline can be used also. Depends: How long has it been since the ance disappeared ? You may need something more aggressive like chemical peels to get rid of the layers little by little as at times the ted spots can turn into permanent dark spots. You could try a low strength of hydro quinine but we usually reserve this medication for the darker spots and not the red ones. Be sure you keep moisturizing well! ...Read more
