I am on wellbutrin, ativan, atorvastatin, escitalopram, lisinopril, abilify (aripiprazole). Can i take propranolol for anxiety/bp?
Use a low dose: Both escitalopram and wellbutrin (bupropion) inhibit liver metabolism (which is how Propranolol is metabolized) and both will result is a stronger Propranolol effect. This will strengthen the effects of Propranolol so start with the smallest dose and monitor your blood pressure and heart rate. It may also make you tired. ...Read more
Can be, not usually: Beta blockers can slow the heart, decrease blood pressure, cause abnormal heart rhythms (even fatal ones), cause bronchospasm (asthma/wheezing), heart failure, mental status changes, rash, allergic reactions. May require aggressive medical rx, especially if taken with other meds. ...Read more

Took 20 of Lorazepam 0.5mg Effects? Dangerous? HTN PCOS G.A.D Depressive Disorder Zestoretic 12-10mg Ativan0.5mg Zoloft (sertraline) 50mg
Go to ER: Ativan (lorazepam) is a sedative/hypnotic so yes it is dangerous since it will knock you out for hours! I don't do this.: Some drs use propanolol (inderal). I do not. This med is cognitively suppressive-esp if used episodically-so it can backfire. My experience is that there are better meds& methods. Also, I do not treat the anxiety only during testing or performing. Whatever meds are used should be used routinely; otherwise, it is less effective. Plus, the patient needs to be acclimated well in advance. ...Read more
Possibly: Lexapro (escitalopram) affects serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain that modulates mood as well as anxiety. Lowering the dose of Lexapro (escitalopram) could increase anxiety, especially if it was done too quickly. Please discuss this with your prescribing physician. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is nadolol (corgard) as effective as propranolol (inderal, innopran xl) in treating social anxiety?
NO: In theory, the answer is no because it doesn't cross the blood brain barrier as readily as propranolol. Nonetheless, it does block the catecholamine (adrenalin) response to stress/anxiety so it will still help and we all respond in our own unique way to every medicine so it may be excellent for some people. ...Read more
Can help: Atarax (hydroxyzine, also sold as vistiril) is a sedating antihistamine. In addition to relieving anxiety, it can also help allergic itching, nausea, & motion sickness. It is non-addictive but can cause drowsiness & other (mostly minor) side-effects. See: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmedhealth/pmh0000796/. ...Read more
Bipolar(controlled -lamictal, carbamazepine), anxiety-semi-under control (lorazepam, temazepam, cymbalta) and ADD problematic- considering Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine) ?
So much medication: It might be necessary to take some drugs but I question the risks already and adding the new one is especially bad w/ cymbalta (duloxetine). It can cause severe anxiety! Also serotonin syndrome. Almost all of your meds combine to cause a host of symptoms like dizziness, confusion and general impairment. Please consider a good psych eval and adding good psychotherapy to lower need for Rx and help them work! ...Read more
