The pituitary gland makes many hormones. After delivery of a baby, the pituitary gland pours out prolactin which causes the breasts to produce milk. It may be abnormally produced and cause enlarged or milk-producing breasts inappropriately.

Non-functional means: Its not producing extra of any of the pituitary hormones, but

You have a: Mildly elevated prolactin, which can induce some infertility. Generally you would need a higher dose of bromocriptine, taken multiple times/day. If available, Cabergoline twice/weekly is a much more effective and less toxic therapy. Talk w/your doctor. ...Read more

An fsh of 15 as you may be aware means your ovarian reserve is not particularly good, and it is likely affecting your chances for pregnancy and may be the cause for your short cycles. High prolactin: Were these tests done fasting? The FSH and E2 levels do not mean anything specific unless you know for certain what day of your menstrual cycle they were drawn: random tests do not diagnose POF or menopause. The prolactin is abnormally high, it bears repeating, fasting, first thing in the morning. If still abnormal, address the prolactin, THEN you can check the other levels again. ...Read more

No: No it doesn't, but both can hinder your normal fertility. Fasting prolactin shouldn't usually be above around 20-25 ng/ml and TSH ideally should be less than about 2.0. These probelems might go together, or may be independent. Repeating teh prolactin fasting is helpful (if you haven't already done so.). ...Read more
