My dad has stage 4 lung cancer spread from one lung to two, also spread to bones, prognosis poor. Aprox long does he have to live? Thanks.

Stage 4 lung cancer: If he is not on any treatment, not very long, measured in weeks to months. If he is already on treatment, how long depends on whether he had any response to a treatment. If the chemo gave him some relief for 6 months or more, then that is better than if he received chemo and relapsed in less than 2 months. ...Read more

Cancer (Definition)

Cancer is a group of diseases that is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth leading to invasion of surrounding tissues that spread to other parts of the body. Cancer can begin anywhere in the body and is usually related to one or more genetic mutations that allow normal cells to become malignant by interfering with internal cellular control mechanisms, such as programmed cell death or by preventing ...Read more

Metastasis noted in bone in pelvic region. Now person is noted as stage 4 lung cancer given about 3 months to live. How accurate is this prognosis?

Possibly: Metastasis to bone from any tumor/malignancy is stage4= distant metastasis= spread beyond margins.
Prognosis is guarded, depending on originating type.
Some metastasis respond to removal or control of primary thyroid and renal come to mind. ...Read more

My father has stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. Prognosis?

My father has stage 4 non small cell lung cancer. Prognosis?

In general, not good: Non small cell is usually not as aggressive as small cell, but chemotherapy is not as effective. A lot depends on the functional status of your dad, and where the cancer has spread. Stage 4 implies it has spread somewhere. 5 year survival rates are usually less than 5%. Sorry. ...Read more

My friend diagnosed stage 4 inoperablel lung cancer.6 rounds of chemo shrunk tumor but tumors in adrenals grew. She was diagnosed in march.Prognosis?

My friend diagnosed stage 4 inoperablel lung cancer.6 rounds of chemo shrunk tumor but tumors in adrenals grew. She was diagnosed in march.Prognosis?

Cosider localtherapy: I think the lung cancer can metastasize to the adrenal gland either by the lymphatic or the hematogenous route. In case of metastasis by the lymphatic route, it can be a solitary metastasis, and the prognosis can be relatively better. If the patient is young and in good performance status, aggressive treatment(stereotactic radiotherapy or even removal) can be considered in very selected case. ...Read more

My friend was diagnosed in march with stage 4 inoperable lung cancer.6 tounds of aggressive chemo shrunk lung tumor but now in both adrenals.Prognosis?

My friend was diagnosed in march with stage 4 inoperable lung cancer.6 tounds of aggressive chemo shrunk lung tumor but now in both adrenals.Prognosis?

Hard to say: Lung cancer often spreads to the adrenal glands, but adrenal tumors are often benign. The best predictor of how well your friend will do is how quickly the tumor is growing. If he truly had nothing there in march and now, despite chemotherapy, has large adrenal tumors growing that is not a good sign. If, however, your frined has had adrenal tumors all along, then the prognosis is much better. ...Read more

Stage IV lung CA: We really have no treatment that will get rid of lung ca that has spread beyond the lung..Stage iv. Treatment can sometimes slow things down but often doesn't even do that. S/he has been following you, and will be able to discuss the process with you. Even so, s/he will not be able to give you an exact time, and you may also rebound at least temporarily from what seems like worsening symptoms. With stage 4 lung cancer, what is the life expectancy?

Greatly depends: That depends on many factors: the type of cancer, how much it has spread, whether it is responsive to treatment, whether you have received treatment, etc. Etc. It is very difficult to make a prognostication about "life expectancy." stage 4 cancer, of whatever type, can be very difficult. It is important you get all the information you need that is accurate and helpful. ...Read more

What is the stage 4 lung cancer average survival rate?

Survival : Only god knows how long we are going to live and when we are going to die. Having said that, at least based on studies we have on average - 15 months would be the average survival rate. It could be shorter or longer than that. With better understanding about the biology of the cancer and the use of newer biological agents in the appropriate case- survival would be longer hopefully. ...Read more

What should be the ldh levels seen in stage 4 lung cancer?

It varies: Ldh levels in various cancers can be elevated but not all the time. It is marker of cell proliferation;l so it is more often elevated in very advanced bulky tumors. But it is quite unpredictable so there is no set expected number that we can provide .But it is good to know the blood level as a normal ldh value is often a favorable feature in most types of cancer. ...Read more

What are some good suggestions for chemo with stage 4 lung cancer?

It depends.: It depends on the cancer type. In small-cell lung carcinoma, Cisplatin and Etoposide are used. In advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma, two drugs are used, with one is often platinum-based (either Cisplatin or carboplatin). Other commonly used drugs are gemcitabine, Paclitaxel and docetaxel. Vinorelbine and Cisplatin is more effective in aduvant chemo.. Regardless, 5 year survival is <5%. ...Read more

Can you go from stage 4 lung cancer to stage 3 if you improve a bit?

Stage confusion: Stage and staging tells you where the cancer is, what the prognosis is, and what the treatment might be with options. You do not change stage once treatment begins. The tumor either responds or doesn't. Complete repsonse (?Remission in leukenmia?) is the goal, shrinkage is ok. The idea is that as long as the cancer responds, you stay on that regimen...Maybe. ...Read more

Lung (Definition)

Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more
