Gastroenteritis: The best thing for v/d, caused by virus, is belly rest. After vomiting, wait 1-1 1/2 hrs, to let the stomach relax. Then just sips of clear liquids, like pedialyte. No water. If that stays down for 1/2hr, increase to 1-2oz/hr, until 6hrs from last vomit. Then increase as tolerated. Take it slow. If vomiting doesn't stop, see a doctor. Clostridium: CDiff does have a significant relapse rate. It has to be 100% liquid in order for the lab to process the sample. Young people can tolerate symptoms much more than the elderly or ill and therefore tend to go on with the infection a lot longer before seeking treatment.
