Unusual choice: Primolut is a synthetic progestin, norethisterone: it would be an odd choice of treatment, at least in the us. Although it's actions are very similar to native progesterone, most advise avoiding synthetic progestins when pregnant. Discuss your concern again with your doctor, for sure. ...Read more

Primolut: I had to look this one up because its a Progesterone used in europe, primarily the uk. Assuming it is like using Provera (medroxyprogesterone) and when I prescribe provera, (medroxyprogesterone) I tell patients to take the full number of pills I prescribed. Progesterones are most commonly used to bring on a menses, but there are other uses. So, finish the full 7 days. ...Read more

Norethisterone: Primolut n is a brand of generic norethisterone which is a progestin used as a hormonal contraceptive. All medications ; dietary supplements have some risks. Whether potential risks exceed desired benefit is a question to be addressed w/your prescribing physician. Given that it's approved for sale in many countries, i'd say it's relatively safe. Norethisterone: It's not actually the presence of Primolut (norethisterone) that brings the period, but actually the removal of the medication. Your body gets used to having it for a few days and when it's gone, it signals the body to shed the uterine lining. Norethisterone is the same signal that your ovaries secrete when an egg is released and if no pregnancy occurs, that signal stops, also leading to a period. ...Read more

I have just started Primolut for inter cycle bleeding. When I stop taking this medication will my cycle continue from cd19 or start again from cd1?
Depends: Most likely you will trigger a withdrawal bleed after stopping it. The first day of bleeding would then be considered day 1. This will vary depending on the dose, duration and your baseline hormonal function. The best thing to do is not worry about it and see what happens over the next month or so. ...Read more

Menopause?: U don't mention your age. In order to have periods the ovary has to produce estrogen to make a uterine lining grow. A progestin such as primolut, makes the lining mature. After the progestin level falls, the lining sloughs off (a period occurs. It can take a week to 10 days for this to happen. If it hasn't happened at that point, testing is indicated to see if there is a reason for a low estrogen ...Read more

Be careful: Presumably your doctor gave you this medication since he/she wanted to put you on Progesterone after the iui. This is fine when started appropriately. The Primolut is an artificial Progesterone and should never be taken during pregnancy. Only natural Progesterone or synthetic versions of natural Progesterone should be used. Primolut is fine to bring on the period though. ...Read more
FindWhatWorksForYou: That's pretty quick, but in this world almost anything can happen (just ask Art Bell). Primolut seems to be noted for its fluid retention side effect (like most progesterone-like medications) so, yeah, you can start on your merry way to weight gain in three days. But if that doesn't suit you, talk to your doctor about something else. Primolut wasn't the first, and won't be the last, progestin ...Read more
