I just stopped Prilosec 20MG after 2 months for Gastritis. I am on Zantac (ranitidine) 300mg now but am experiencing rebound acid burning and reflux. Suggestions?
See your doctor to : discuss more about your diet and hydration issues too. It's important to see what's causing the rebound gastritis. Sometimes acidic foods, Tums, (calcium carbonate) calcium based foods can cause this to happen, as well as fried foods, processed foods and underlying stress and worry. There's definitely a mind- body connection with gut issues, as the microbiome controls our neurotransmitter production, absorption. ...Read more
If its not gastritis or ulcer what can it be? Constant knawing below the breasted bone and sometimes stomach pains.Zantec and Prilosec hasn't helped
Wide Range Possible: Pains around the breast bone can be from your heart or gallbladder as well as from the stomach. I'd humbly suggest you see your pcp for a quick work up (or go to the er if pain is more severe). Heart atacks can sometimes seem like heartburn or indigestion. This would be the worst case scenario. Continued pain in this area needs to be evaluated rather urgently though, because of that fact. ...Read more
Taking omeprazole dr 2×20 mg and ranitidine 300 mg still have chronic gastritis , sore throat too much gas with very bad smell what can it be ?
Maybe not acid...: Related. Could be irritants such as alcohol, reflux of bile into stomach, effects of aspirin, other. Talk to md about other causes and possible rx, including med change, use of other rx, e.g. Sucralfate, which works by a different mechanism than Prilosec and other ppi meds. ...Read more
Nexium (esomeprazole): Proton pump inhibitors (ie Nexium (esomeprazole) among others) are potent medications that nicely reduce stomach acid. H2 blocker (ie zantac) are also acid reducers but much less effective. Most patients find better relief with Nexium (esomeprazole) compared to zantac. ...Read more
Is that true that Prilosec OTC drug worsen gastritis and overall Heath condition with bunch if side effects? Thanks a lot
Are there any side effects to 300mg of zantac, (ranitidine) i start it tomorrow.I been taking 40mg of Prilosec for years now.
Could long term use of prilosec (3yrs) be the cause of erosive gastritis? due to not having enough acid vs. to much & therefore also cause gastritis.
Not likely: It is not likely that the Prilosec is associated with erosive gastritis. It is possible that a behavior,e.g. nonsteroidals, smoking, alcohol may have been continued, in spite of being on Prilosec - which was the risk factor. Prilosec, a proton pump inhibitor, is used to treat erosive gastritis, albeit at higher doses. ...Read more

What can cause vertigo in middle of night. Started at 2am and finally subsided around 7am. I was diagnosed w gastritis about a month ago, take Zantac (ranitidine) ?
I took a 40mg prilosec, prescribed, can I take a zantac (ranitidine)? I just started the script and I need instant relief
Not best choice: If you need instant relief you need to take something that will directly neutralize the stomach acidity, such as TUMS, (calcium carbonate) Rolaids, Mylanta etc. Prilosec(a PPI) and Zantac(H2 blocker) both act to cause the stomach to make less acid, but they don't immediately neutralize the acid already there. **PPI's like Prilosec can be "addicting" see:.. http://bit.ly/1HDj7EB ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Prilosec didn't work for me but Zantac (ranitidine) is helping why is that???? I thought Prilosec was supposed to be better
Not really...: Like with many medications that fall within the same class or category in terms of what illness they treat, there isn't necessarily a 'better', it's more about what's better for you. Different people respond differently, so all that matters is that it's working for you. Hope that helps! ...Read more
