I took a 40mg prilosec, prescribed, can I take a zantac (ranitidine)? I just started the script and I need instant relief
Not best choice: If you need instant relief you need to take something that will directly neutralize the stomach acidity, such as TUMS, (calcium carbonate) Rolaids, Mylanta etc. Prilosec(a PPI) and Zantac(H2 blocker) both act to cause the stomach to make less acid, but they don't immediately neutralize the acid already there. **PPI's like Prilosec can be "addicting" see:.. http://bit.ly/1HDj7EB ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Having terrible heartburn..I take 20mg Prilosec prescribed everyday.. Today its not helping. Can i take pepto bismol (bismuth subsalicylate)? I've already taken my prilosec?
Needs an EGD: Persistent heartburn while on Omeprazole (prilosec) or other acid blockers needs further testing. Symptoms may be gastric or duodenal ulcers, h pylori infection, hiatal herna, esophageal erosion or ulcers, tumor causing increased acid production and rarely gastric cancer. Avoid the peptobismal and see your familydoctor. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My doc thinks I have an ulcer & prescribed prilosec. I've taken it for 2 weeks w/o result. Is there another safe OTC med that can help? Thanks!
Nexium, (esomeprazole) Prevacid: Did you have any endoscopy performed to diagnose the ulcer? Prilosec is used to treat ulcer, but it does takes time to treat an ulcer, at least for several weeks. Antibiotics may be needed too if there is bacterial infection associated with the ulcer, and repeat endoscopy is recommended to see the resolution of the ulcer. Other alternative OTC are nexium, (esomeprazole) Prevacid which works similarly. Good luck! ...Read more
My daughter gets nausea in the morning. Her doc prescribed prilosec. One in morning before eating. That was a week ago. She still has it. Blood work ok?
Kids often nauseated: Depending on the age of your daughter, her nausea may be "functional", "central", infectious, gynecologic or other non-gi causes. If her nausea is GI related and not responding to low-dose prilosec, she may either need a bigger dose of acid-blocker medicine or investigation of the gallbladder, liver, pancreas, gastric outlet, as well as small and large bowel. Time to see her doctor for testing. ...Read more
I am prescribed Prilosec and adderall, (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) can I take them without drug interactions?
Not really ...: Prilosec (omeprazole) was the 1st introduced in a class of meds called proton pump inhibitors(ppi).Others are zantac, aciphex, (rabeprazole) protonix, nexium, prevacid, &the newest: zapidex. Zegerid is mostly prilosec, plus sodium bicarbonate. All of these decrease stomach acid & will likely slow & decrease Adderall absorption. A good dose can still be achieved, but both meds should be taken very consistently. ...Read more
