What do you suggest if my eyelashes are growing into my eye?

Trichiasis: There are multiple options for this that an ophthalmologist can offer. Temporizing method is to remove them manually but they grow back in weeks. Radiofrequency ablation and cryotherapy works well. If it is because the eyelid itself is turning in, then an oculoplastic surgeon can repair this. In the meantime ointments or a bandage clear contact lens help protect your cornea from lashes. Good luck. ...Read more

My 14 year old has one white eyelash and 1 white eyebrow hair - same eye. Both grow longer than the normal hairs. Should we be concerned?

Usually OK: An occasional grey or white hair in a young person is usually not a problem. Conditions that can lead to premature gray/white hairs include genetic disposition, vitamin B12 deficiency, thyroid problems, and other rare disorders that usually have other symptoms (vitiligo, neurofibromatosis, tuberous sclerosis, Waardenburg syndrome, ...). Your doctor may want to screen for B12 & thyroid levels, CBC. ...Read more

Could latisse really change the color of my eyes? I've heard a lot about latisse lately, and I love the idea of growing fuller eyelashes over time. It was mentioned, however, that the treatment might actually change the color of my eyes. Is that even poss

Latisse (bimatoprost): Latisse (bimatoprost) is very unlikely to change your eye color. It is used at the base of the upper eyelashes just above the lash line. When used sparingly in this location, you are unlikely to get Latisse (bimatoprost) directly into your eye. If you somehow repeatedly and regularlly put Latisse (bimatoprost) in your eye for weeks, you might change your eye color.

The active ingredient in Latisse (bimatoprost) causes increased pigmentation. This might cause a light brown eye to turn darker brown. ...Read more

My eyelashes have fallen out in a small patch on one eye. It has been a couple of weeks and they don't seem to be growing back! What should I do?

Eye exam: I would allow more time to grow than two weeks first of all, before you start worrying. Secondly, its important to get an eye exam, because, not to scare you, but there are certain cancerous lesions that can cause your eyelashes to fall out, especially if you're light skinned, and older than 40yo, and a long history of sun exposure. Go see your eyemd ;-). ...Read more

Use travatan z to treat right eye for glaucoma. How would I apply travatan to base of left eye to grow eyelashes so the eyelashes in both eyes match?

Not recommended, but: Travatan and similar drugs that grow the lashes have side effects that can leave the lid skin hyperpigmented. For that reason, it is not recommended to apply it to your lower lashes. You may want to get a liquid eyeliner from the drug store, take the tiny brush out, wash it, & use it to brush the upper lashline with travatan nightly. Be sure to use as little as possible. Good luck! ...Read more

Trichiasis: Trichiasis is a common eyelid abnormality in which the eyelashes are misdirected and grow inwards toward the eye. They can rub against different parts of the eye which, understandably, is irritating. It can be caused by an eye infection, inflammation of the eyelid, autoimmune conditions or trauma. You can't stop it but offending eyelashes can be removed sometimes with surgery. See your Eye Doctor. ...Read more
