How do you prevent your leg ulcers from weeping?

How do you prevent your leg ulcers from weeping?

Compression therapy: Weeping is a very common problem with patients that have leg ulcers. The goal is to get the ulcer to heal. Compression therapy and aggressive wound care is the key. Once the ulcer heals however the compression therapy has to continue to prevent swelling of the legs. Otherwise the ulcer will simply come back.

How do I prevent leg ulcers from diabetics?

Good habits.: Diabetics should get into the habit of checking their feet daily for changes. Keep them moisturized with good lotion rather than soaking (which can dry your feet out more, cause cracking and chapping), wear supportive, protective shoes at all times, and above all, keep strict control of your blood sugar. Controlling your blood sugar keeps your nerves healthy, and avoids ulcers and infections.

Can you tell me how do I prevent leg ulcers for diabetics?

Can you tell me how do I prevent leg ulcers for diabetics?

Meticulous control: Diabetic leg/foot ulcers occur for several reasons: nerve damage, (wounds don't hurt initially), poor artery supply, poor healing from elevated blood sugars. There is no simple way to prevent them except meticulous control of diabetes and diligent monitoring. If you get a wound go directly to your diabetic doc. Delay in presenting to the doc causes lots of problems. Be well.

Any advice welcome treating leg ulcers with manuka honey?

Any advice welcome treating leg ulcers with manuka honey?

Honey: Honey has had a resurgence in treatment of ulcerations. However if there is no underlying vein reflux problem that needs to be addressed, as without that the ulceration will either take a long time to heal, or may not heal. Use of compression stockings is also very beneficial in trying to heal the ulceration. Unna boot placement has also had benefit in management.

What are good treatments for leg ulcers?

What are good treatments for leg ulcers?

Leg ulcers: The answer this question depends upon the underlying source for the ulcerations. Evaluation of the circulatory system is crucial, to include arterial flow, and vein flow. Ulcerations occur secondary to an underlying problem, and the treatment protocol requires treatment of this underlying problem for successful outcomes. I would seek evaluation by a vascular surgeon.
