Spironolactone make spotting, what should be taken to prevent such spotting? Can progesterone pessaries help?

Spironolactone make spotting, what should be taken to prevent such spotting? Can progesterone pessaries help?

If you're taking it b/c of excessive body hair, a combined oral contraceptive with low androgen effect might control those side effects without reducing its effectiveness. Natural progesterone is less convenient since it isn't absorbed orally. Talk w/ your doctor! ...Read more

Been spotting on and off for the past month. Been on pill for 1+ year, have never had breakthrough bleeding this long?

If it's a persistent problem, it may be time to switch to a pill with a higher estrogen content (not sure which one you are on) to stabilize the lining of your uterus. Speak with your doctor and devise a plan together. He or she may also want to see you in the office for this problem. Good luck! ...Read more

On antibiotic for UTI and having breakthrough spotting while on BCP's. I'm otherwise healthy. Can I double up on by pill for the next few days?

Add a condom: The package insert from the bcp, which you can see online will say if you need to take abx, the bcp may lose effectiveness, so, use a "backup method" in addition to the bcp. It's a good idea on general principle to use condoms anyway, as they help decrease the chance of an sti. I never said, or heard it said to double up on the bcp. The condoms should be used 4 2 wks.
Good Luck ...Read more
