Dr prescribed prevacid (lansoprazole). But it cost too much. What is cheap alternative for silent reflux? Has to be liquid because I can't swallow pills.

There's not one: Unfortunately, to get the PPIs in a liquid form means they have to be compounded by a pharmacy. They will all cost about the same because only the name brands are compounded as far as I know. Check with your pharmacist to be sure ...Read more

4 month old--silent reflux--taking prevacid (lansoprazole) but wanting to try probiotics. Are they effective?

Yes, concerned...: I am quite concerned about using Prevacid (lansoprazole) in a baby. It's important to treat reflux but it can have serious side effects, isn't a cure ; should not be used for more than 12 weeks. Probiotics are more likely to address the cause as part of a natural treatment program. See http://bit. Ly/1b1avqs

Is it safe to take prevacid (lansoprazole) for a long period of time?

Yes: Long term use of ppis such as Prevacid (lansoprazole) has been associated with an increase risk of pneumonia in the elderly and an increase risk of bone fracture in older women. It can theorhetically cause malabsorption of b12, calcium and iron. Supplimenting these is probably adequate to prevent these complications. As always, you should discuss the risks and benefits of all medications with your doctor. ...Read more

I had fasting blood testing following euflexxa injection and had taken lisinipril, Prevacid (lansoprazole) and Zyrtec. ALT was high at 92.Could this be due to meds?

I had fasting blood testing following euflexxa injection and had taken lisinipril, Prevacid (lansoprazole) and Zyrtec. ALT was high at 92.Could this be due to meds?

Unlikely: None of those medicines is particularly known for elevating your liver enzymes (the transaminases, including ALT), but liver toxicity is listed as a rare complication. It's unlikely that these are the cause of the slight ALT elevation. (but would consider discontinuing or switching if there was absolutely no other possible explanation for elevated ALT). Most common cause is moderate alcohol use. ...Read more

Fever, flu symptoms after taking a prevacid (lansoprazole). Fever only lasted 2-3 hrs and never returned. I've taken it before. Side effect? Coincidence?

Coincidence.: While any medication can have side effects (including flu like symptoms) very few can cause fever. My guess is that you had a virus that has now passed. The way to know for sure would be to take the medication again. If the symptoms soon return, then it was the medication; if they do not, then it was coincidence. ...Read more

If you had to choose between 1 prevacid or 2-4 Zantac (ranitidine) to manage GERD (morning nausea and nausea between meals) for life which would you choose?

GERD: Neither is good for life, chronic acid suppression, especially by ppis like prevacid, (lansoprazole) can create more problems down the line in the stomach. You should consider dietary changes, losing weight and other ways to control your gerd rather than depending on medications at your young age. ...Read more
