Several things: Your son needs a thorough assessment of his development including cognitive, social, language, motor and adaptive skills. Some of the symptoms sound like adhd, though he is below the age most would diagnose him with this condition. Recommend to see a child neurologist or developmental/behavioral pediatrician who can request further evaluations such as physical and speech therapy if needed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

What makes my son keep fluid and pressure in his ears? He is 9 years old and autistic. He has had 2 sets of tubes in his ears and the last ones have been out around a month and has already had 2 ear infections. The first time it actually wasn't infected
Chronic : Chronic ear fluid is a common problem for a lot of kids and some adults. It is due to eustachian tube dysfunction (when the tube that connects the ear to the throat is not draining properly). Since there are no medications shown to alleviate the pressure or drain the fluid from behind the ear drum, it has to be done by a surgeon with a suction and/or placement of ear tubes. There are various types of ear tubes - some less likely to fall out than others. You should talk to your child's ENT doctor about what tubes might be best for him since the last 2 sets have fallen out and he is still having eustachian tube dysfunction. Of course, some of the more permanent tubes can have more serious complications, so the pros and cons need to be weighed for each child before proceeding. His is why it is a good idea to discuss this with the ENT doctor caring for your child. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My daughter has autism she is 7 she is very repetitive with her speech and behaviour is there any medications that could help this thanks ?
No medication: Although doctors have tried medications thinking these could be related to OCD, there hasn't been much success. The language is due to problems developing original speech, so she relies on phrases that somehow connected with her. The behaviors can be related to sensory needs, a means of self calming or a means of understanding their body and world. Speech and OT can help expand her skills. ...Read more
Why doesn't my 3-year-old son with autism answer to his name? He knows his name, hears well, and has quite a bit of speech, so he should be able to.
Common autism trait: One of the hallmarks of autism is the impaired ability to recognize or interact to social cues in the usual way. It's not helpful: The point of speech/language therapy for kids with ASD is not only to increase expressive language, it's to increase social communication, conversational turn-taking in real life situations with real human beings whose emotional & verbal response are neither scripted nor always expected. The only thing worse would be to allow hours of screen time or Baby Einstein videos. Speech = articulation. ...Read more

The hallmark symptom of autism is impairment in social functioning so speech delay could be present w/o autism. ...Read more
