How does weight loss pills work and do they have long term side effects?

How does weight loss pills work and do they have long term side effects?

Sadly, they don't: Weight loss pills are of 3 types: "speed"-like drugs (rx e.g. Meridia; prior otc e.g. Ephedrine), blocking agents (e.g. Alli) and bad/miscellaneous agents (e.g. Thyroid, diuretics). Problems: if from the 'net, you have no idea of actual contents. If the 17 year old is near normal weight (bmi 25-26 or in the normal range 18.5-25) than i would not recommend adding appetite suppressants. Talk to your doc. ...Read more

If you are doing what you say, you may be healthier than you think. Have you lost inches (but not weight)? Are your glu and cholesterol levels better? There may be hidden calories in what you eat. Suggest seeing your doctor of dietician. ...Read more

Could i go to the dr and get a prescription for weight loss pills?

No Diet Pills: I would worry that any physician who would prescribe 'diet' pills for you did not have your health or your best interests at heart. There are no known supplements or diet pills that really lead to true and lasting weight loss. Postponing the real work it takes to lose weight is the most common outcome when one takes any medicine for weight loss. ...Read more
