How do I get pitocin nasal spray prescription if i don't have any conditions needing it? Doctor suggested using it to help climax during sex

ask prescriber: It is not illegal to prescribe meds for an 'off-label' or non-fda indications but the insurer may not cover it. This sounds like a use similar to viagra, (sildenafil) which most insurers won't cover as 'not medically necessary' all prescribed meds should be monitored by prescriber esp hormones like yours. ...Read more

Does oxytocin help with autism?

Does oxytocin help with autism?

It's promising: Oxytocin has potentially beneficial effects that are causing us to work further on assessing its value. There is enough info to suggest it plays a role in helping people "bond"/relate & also in decreasing anxiety. I've just begun using it with specific fda authorization in our autistic patients. We'll have more info soon. Limitations include short half-life & the overly dilute nasal spray. ...Read more

Why isnt oxytocin available for those with lactation problem?

Why isnt oxytocin available for those with lactation problem?

It is dangerous: Oxytocin is used to augment labor, and is also the hormone that is involved in let-down in a lactating woman. It does not really increase milk supply as much as it allows the milk to release. It is only used in labor under very careful monitoring because it can drop someone's blood pressure. Fenugreek, metaclopromide, and pumping are better options to increase supply. ...Read more

I've read that oxytocin has helped those with autism. Is that true?

I've read that oxytocin has helped those with autism. Is that true?

Under study: There are reports that individuals (mostly adults) with asperger's disorder and high-functioning autism who use inhaled oxytocin so that it gets into the brain find themselves feeling more inclinded to be social, at least for a time. No studies suggest permanent changes, and it is unlikely to be a "cure" for autism, although it is an interest research lead. ...Read more

Could you tell me what hormones counteract oxytocin and how do they do it?

Could you tell me what hormones counteract oxytocin and how do they do it?

Why?: Not sure why you are asking this. Oxytocin is the hormone released by the pituitary gland during breast feeding that causes release of milk. It is also used pharmacologically to induce labor as it causes uterine contraction. If your question is more related to stopping breast milk production after pregnancy, bromocriptine had been used previously, but is no longer allowed for this use. ...Read more
