Can a capsule endoscopy replace an upper endoscopy &colonoscopy for a 3 year old? Is the same prep required for the capsule endoscopy?

Possibly: If you are at an academic center working with pediatric GI and radiology specialists, this can be a great alternative if you just need to look. Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.

Could I have colon hydrotherapy as a substitute for the "standard" prep for a colonoscopy? Normally use enemas.

If it clears you out: The main purpose of colon prep for colonsocopy is to clean out the stool so that the camera can see the linings of your colon. The 'standard prep" works well because it has been done a gazillion times. I am not sure how good the hydrotherapy will do, but as long as it clean you out (without causing problem for you), i don't see why not! if it does not, u may have to do the standard" good luck. ...Read more

Is a nurse anesthetist, to assist GI during a screening colonoscopy, a good choice over an anesthesiologist?

Anesthesiologist: A nurse anesthetist (crna) is a cheaper, less trained alternative to an anesthesiologist. The md is likely the better option. Is it the norm to get scheduled for a colonoscopy for hemorrhoids without anyone even checking visually for hemorrhoids? This procedure is costly.

Not the norm ...: But it all depends on the specific scenario & what symptoms are reported. If there is bright red rectal bleeding, nothing else, in a 35 year old, physical exam for hemorrhoids would come first. But if there are additional symptoms, and the person is of the age/risk level to need a colonoscopy for screening, then that procedure would be recommended.
