I've been taking Premarin .625mg for 30 years, since total hysterectomy. I am now 59 yrs old. Would my body go bonkers without taking it?
No but: You are on a low dose of estrogen and your body would not "go bonkers" but you may begin to have hot flushes, vaginal dryness, insomnia, and mood swings. Without the estrogen your risk will begin to increase for stroke, heart attack, colon cancer, alzheimer's disease, and osteoporosis. Should a 80 yr old woman still be on 1.25 of premarin?!?!? She refuses to wean off of it even over a long period of time!
Probably OK: That dose of Premarin is equivalent to about 1% of what the normal ovaries produce each day before a women goes through menopause. Doubtful: But if depends on the dose as there are 6 different doses. You may get other side effects from taking too much at once. It would be hard to imagine anyone taking 14 pills at once as it is one pill per day whichever dose you are taking, but if you did take 2 weeks at once you should see your doctor or call your doctor asap. ...Read more
