What is better to treat low estrogen in 30 yr old female (6 p/mg), Premarin (conjugated estrogens) , estradiol or birth control?
Depends: If you have an intact uterus then I would use a birth control pill as it provides both the estrogen and progesterone you need to prevent pregnancy and endometrial hyperplasia. If you have had a hysterectomy than both premarin (conjugated estrogens) and estradiol (estrace) would be fine. The estrogen in birth control by the way is estradiol as well. 30 yr old female. Secondary amenorreha, low estrogen is cause (6pg/ml). On Premarin (conjugated estrogens) .625mg, & feel horrible, dizzy. Would an estradiol therapy work?

Is taking an o-t-c estrogen pill better than prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone)? I worry about getting cancer with prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone).
Estrog amt not known: The 2002 study showed and increased risk, not an occurance of breast cancer, presumably due to the pro part of prempro (conjugated estrogens and medroxyprogesterone). Doubtful: But if depends on the dose as there are 6 different doses. You may get other side effects from taking too much at once. It would be hard to imagine anyone taking 14 pills at once as it is one pill per day whichever dose you are taking, but if you did take 2 weeks at once you should see your doctor or call your doctor asap. ...Read more

Weight gain etc: Most of my patients on Premarin (conjugated estrogens) do quite well as the benefits of taking it far out weigh the risks. Weight gain, bloating, breast , uterus cancer, blood clot , ht attack, stoke. These are all very uncommon in a healthy person taking this medication. If you have a uterus you will need to take Progesterone also but if you don't then u can just take estrogen which is safer. ...Read more
