Here are some...: Why don't you bring this concern to your obs-doc? Clinically, at this stage of pregnancy, it is practically unnecessary to frequently repeat ultrasound imaging since there would be nothing that needs or could be done. At most, repeat it once before childbirth is taking place so to get idea if fetal hydronephrosis may interfere natural delivery; if possible, C-section may be required. So, ask doc.. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

UTI: You may have a urinary tract infection or a kidney stone. Both conditions require immediate attention during pregnancy. If you have an infection, the treatment usually consists of antibiotics. If you have a kidney stone which may be blocking the flow of urine from the hydronephrotic kidney, you may need to have a small stent placed between the kidney and the bladder. ...Read more

See Pedi Urologist: Bilat hydronephrosis can indicate several different problems. You should involve a pediatric urologist promptly. In the male fetus, this can indicate posterior urethral valves which needs to be addressed immediately upon delivery. It could also indicate bilateral vesico-ureteral reflux or obstruction where the kidneys drain into the ureters (upj-obstruction) either way, see peds uro stat. ...Read more

I am 40 weeks pregnant today and am ready to have my baby boy! I've been examined weekly (baby hydronephrosis-at 10) and aporox 9lbs. Is induction pos?

Induction in 2 weeks: Induction will probably be entertained by your treating OB MD in 1 to 2 weeks if you have not gone into labor yet and you become post-mature. The old adage is appropriate here for now, that "if the apple is ripe it will fall off the tree" spontaneously. ...Read more

How would you treat a pregnant woman of 18 weeks with sever painless hydronephrosis on her left kidney? Would you let it go untreated being watched? Or would you perform a percutaneous nephrostomy? Or what else? Thanks!

Not from pregnancy: U r probably seeing an OB dr. Best consult with experienced urologist. Management depends upon presence and thickness of kidney cortex (functional part of kidney), may require a temporary percutaneous jj tube between bladder & kidney or nephrostomy tube (placed thru posterior abdominal wall, best by interventional radiologist) for duration of pregnancy. Need BUN & creatinine checked now. ...Read more

33 weeks pregnant having severe right flank paim. Diagnosed with moderate hydronephrosis.  What can be done for this  miserable and in lots of pain?

See the Urologist: Hydronephrosis of Pregnancy is common. On the Rt side more common. Possible stone. Ultrasound could help. You may have to have a stent if pain too severe. Try to hold out if you can. Later have Urology check for little known Rt ovarian syndrome. Which can cause this Rt side only hydro. This may require surgery later if you plan more babies. No: Hydronephrosis is common during pregnancy, more on the right than left. Could also be due to a kidney stone if there is associated pain. If you have continued to take aleve (naproxen) or another pain medication, you could have bleeding from your kidney from that. Sometimes a clot in the ureter tube could cause pain and hydronephrosis as well. ...Read more

What is unilateral hydronephrosis?

Hydronephrosis: Refers to fluid inside the kidney. This fluid is urine which is able to remain in the kidney because of a larger size of the renal pelvis. The renal pelvis is the part of the kidney where the urine collects prior to descending into the bladder. The size of the pelvis should not exceed 7 mm on ultrasound. Small increases have no clinical significance and may represent variants of normal. ...Read more

25% worth saving: Do you mean 25% relative function with opposite kidney performing 75% or is right kidney functioning at 25% of its' expected capacity? Below 10 - 12%, in presence of severe hydroneprosis is probably not worth saving. My child had been diagnosed to have antenatal hydronephrosis. The baby is one month old now and the swelling is still there. What can be done to make?

Probably temporize: Mostly prenatally diagnosed hydronephosis will persist > 1 month. Management depends upon degree of h.
