SI joint instability: No. In my experience, the resistance in the water can aggravate the SI joint and increase the popping. Unfortunately, SI joint syndrome has limited options. Work with a PT or Chiropractic Doc who is trained in SI joint manipulation and exercises for stability. Avoid high-impact activities and identify what specific movement triggers the instability. If the pain occurs at rest or just prior to sleep, one should consider the diagnosis of atypical restless leg syndrome (RLS). This can cause pain in the pelvic region which stops WITH movement and increases with rest. Drugs, such as mirapex, (pramipexole) may be beneficial. The pubic symphysis keeps your pelvis together in the front so I would expect it to take a few months until you feel normal. Be careful not to overdo it. I'd bet that some physical therapy would help guide you back into shape.
