I'm 48 years old, my girlfriend is 36. We just found out she's pregnant. Is the baby at risk of abnormalties?

Slight elevation: Maternal age > 35 increases the risk a small degree. The risk of down syndrome for example is 1/200. The baseline risk for all anomalies in all pregnancies is 3-5%. Paternal age does not increase the risk until about age 70.

Pregnant risks after age 30?

Pregnant risks after age 30?

Average: Age alone is not considered a risk factor until 35. Nevertheless your fertility is very gradually decreasing and the risk of miscarriage is gradually increasing. Also, the older you are the more likely you are to have other health problems.

Could 48 year old get pregnant?

Could 48 year old get pregnant?

Not likely at all: It would be very rare to get pregnant naturally or with fertility help at that age. Also if you did get pregnant more than 60% of the pregnancies would result in miscarriages. The really only way to achieve pregnancy successfully at that age is with a donor egg. Please don't believe the women getting pregnant without donor over the age of 43.

Numerous: Pregnancy changes the body in multiple ways. In a young indiviual, these changes generally are well adapted to, but can be taxing to some even at that age. An older pregnant woman may be at risk for a lot of things like, chromosomal abnormalities in the baby, diabetes, hypertension, preterm labor, to name a few. Significantly higher: Managing multiple gestations is a challenge for all concerned as complications such as pregnancy induced hypertension (pre-eclampsia) among others are rampant. Good OB care from the outset is tantamount and often in conjunction with a maternal fetal medicine sub-specialist.

What kind of risk factors are there for the child when a teen is pregnant?

What kind of risk factors are there for the child when a teen is pregnant?

Complex question!: Infants of teen are at risk for preterm delivery, low birth-weight, and have higher rates of neonatal or infant death, and there are social & behavioral outcomes that are related to teen pregnancy. However, this question deserves an answer that's longer than a small blurb on a web page allows--if you're a pregnant teen or know one, you should make an appt with your doc to talk about these risks.

Hi Iam currently 5weeks pregnant bhtc high but hasn't doubled in 48 hours what does this mean?

Possible miscarriage: "doubling" is a misnomer. HCG should go up by atleast 50% to suggest a normal pregnancy in 48 hours. If it did, its good, If it didnt, you are likely to have a miscarriage Best wishes Dr M

Why are pregnant women more at risk for food-borne illnesses? What are they and how can they avoid them?

Cook and wash: Pregnant women are more at risk because their immune system goes into a bit of hibernation in order to avoid rejecting the growing babe as "foreign". My husband is 48 I am 25 but I can't get pregnant for him. Could it be from me or him? Please I need your help.

Hard to say: Has he fathered children before? Do you have regularly menses? Have you ever been pregnant? I would discuss with your obgyn and they can give you more specifics and direct you from there if you HAV ebeen having unprotected intercourse for 6-12 months might be time to see an infertility doc. As men get older their sperm are less motil, more abnormally shaped, but they are still able to fertilize.

I was diagnosed with toxoplosmosis last year and want to get pregnant now, is there any medication I can use while pregnant to help reduce the risk?

Toxoplasmosis: If you are diagnosed at the time of pregnancy there is a modest risk of transmission (1:1000). If you are diagnosed with it before pregnancy then the risk is lower. Treatment is complex. Go to http://www. Ncbi. Nlm. Nih. Gov/pmc/articles/PMC1479740/ for an authoritative discussion. Was your cat tested?
