Rash (Definition)

Most bumps and blotches on a newborn baby are harmless and clear up by themselves. By far the most common skin problem in infants is diaper rash. Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin caused by dampness, urine, or feces. Most babies who wear diapers will have some type of diaper rash. However, there are other skin disorders that can cause rashes. These are usually not serious unless ...Read more

Left leg really sure. X-rays show no break/chip. Now small red rash/bump on back of thigh above knee. Could this be shingles?

Shingles?: Shingles is a reactivation of the chicken pox virus. Therefore, for it to be shingles, the rash must look like chicken pox. The rash starts out as vesicles, or small sized fluid blisters that eventually scab over. If this is what you see, it could be shingles and you should see a doctor right away to be placed on antiviral medication to stave off post herpetic neuralgia, a very painful condition. ...Read more

Sciatica: Pain in the distribution as you suggested describes the pattern of the nerve that travels in the leg called the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is not the cause of the pain source, it is the result of an irritated nerve typically in the lumbar spine (low back) which are caused by herniated disks, spinal stenosis or degenerative disc disease requiring further evaluation by a spine specialist. ...Read more

Have a deep aching feeling around my knee on my left leg. I have no known risk factors, but I am worried about a DVT. Or could it be menstural related?

Have a deep aching feeling around my knee on my left leg. I have no known risk factors, but I am worried about a DVT. Or could it be menstural related?

Neither: DVT would not affect your knee. If present, it would affect your calf. Menstrual symptoms don't affect the knees either. You have some form of arthritis. Common causes in your age group (27) are chondromalaciae patellae, torn meniscus, and infection. If it's not getting better, an examination with aspiration of fluid (it doesn't hurt!) and injection of a steroid may provide great relief. ...Read more

See below: In general spine surgery is performed for radicular problems which is numbness and tingling down the leg , weakness of the foot and ankle and unrelenting back pain. There are also our other indications for spine surgery but it sounds like you or one of these of the above. I'm not sure the symptomatology you had prior to your fusion you may want to go back to your spine surgeon get follow-up x-rays and other diagnostic studies or you may want to seek a second opinion. Good luck thank you. ...Read more
