According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

37 weeks 5 days pregnant, lost plug today been having back pain to now where i can't sleep, baby not meeting movement criteria... Labor? 6th baby

Go to hospital: Back pain that severe to the point you can't sleep can be a symptom of labor or something called an abruption (where placenta starts tearing away) and is not to be second guessed. Go to hospital now! ...Read more

Baby weighed 3.770 at birth (75th percentile) and weighs 6.340 at 4 months (20th percentile). Exclusively breastfed. Should i be concerned? Pees a lot

Maybe: Is your pediatrician concerned? Some women can grow a big baby in utero and once born may drop a little because of genetics. Others may not be getting enough calories and that is why the drop. Discuss with your doctor...Do not quit breast feeding...It may simply be time to introduce more calories through food. ...Read more

A week and half ago doc measured baby at 33 weeks 6 days. Ultrasound shows 3 days ago 33 3 days. Is baby growing?

A week and half ago doc measured baby at 33 weeks 6 days. Ultrasound shows 3 days ago 33 3 days. Is baby growing?

Hard to say...: Ultrasound measurements for growth in the third trimester can be off as much as 3 weeks. A week-and-a-half isn't enough time to notice a large change in the baby's growth and results can be confusing. It may not be possible to know for certain if the baby is growing in this short time-frame. You may need additional ultrasounds to know if the baby is growing appropriately or not. ...Read more

When should my midwife check for dilation? 37 weeks and 3 days. But baby is measuring at 38-39 weeks.

When should my midwife check for dilation? 37 weeks and 3 days. But baby is measuring at 38-39 weeks.

Not Unusual: It is not unusal to measure a week or two ahead at your stage of the pregnancy. It is ok to check now if you would like to have the cervix checked for dilatation. Providers , including midwives , do not like to intervene until 39 weeks unless there is a reason too. ...Read more

Had a medical abortion at 14 weeks. 3 weeks after , 2 hpt were negative. However, i feel "gassy" in my stomach. Baby kicking? Continuing pregnancy?

1st, why RU gassy?: Feeling gassy may reflect malabsorption of food (like gluten, lactose), intake of poorly digested food, or choosing foods known to promote gas (beans, fizzy drinks). Sometimes its more complicated--a stomach emptying too slowly, bacterial overgrowth syndrome, delayed intestinal function, partial obstruction from any cause, infection, rectum problems, pelvic pathology outside the gut, maybe stress. ...Read more

What causes a subchorionic hemorrhage? Started at 13 weeks and lost baby at 16 weeks. Passed large clots at 15 weeks & 10 hours before miscarriage

That can be difficul: To say. A placental abruption is what this is called when it happens later in pregnancy, usually due to trauma. Your loss is classified as a miscarriage though it did happen later than usual. The bleeding can be like a chain reaction, blood, cramping then more tearing away. There is a good chance u will be fine with the next pregnancy but review this with your doctor. There may not b a gd answ. ...Read more

33 wks pregnant irregular painless contractions, positive ffn test, 1 CM dilated, baby well into pelvis, 6th pregnancy, will i give birth early?

33 wks pregnant irregular painless contractions, positive ffn test, 1 CM dilated, baby well into pelvis, 6th pregnancy, will i give birth early?

Hard to say: The fetal fibrobectin test is much more predictive of the real condition, or the truth, when the test is negative, than when it is positive. A single positive ffn test result is not highly predictive of preterm labor and delivery, and since you are probably not in active labor from irregular contractions, it's hard to answer your question with confidence. See your OB regularly as directed ...Read more
