Can tea with rose hips, lemon balm, lemon verbena, and hibiscus flower affect birth control or hormones?
Broad question but..: I know of no known interactions between these herbs and oral contraceptives. As to whether these have any affect on hormones, that is a very broad question. As for the dose, there is no scientific study on this especially given that the potency of the active ingredient(s) among different batches of the plants are not known and have not been standardized. Having said that, most people should be able to tolerate up to 4 cups of herbal tea daily as a rule of thumb- again just my personal opinion. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I take a sleep aid at night. Valerian root, lemon balm, l-theanine, hops, chamomile, passion flower & melatonin. Do any of these thin my blood?
Probably.: There are no comprehensive, double-blind studies proving that aloe is safe during pregnancy, but there is no evidence that i'm aware of that it is dangerous either. In general, i tell my patients to stay away from all medications of any type while they are pregnant, unless a doctor orders it. Once you deliver the baby, use all the aloe you want. ...Read more
