Couple of reasons: 1)depending on the hormone levels, it may take a while for the levels to drop to 0. 2)there may be retained tissue. 3)this could be a separate pregnancy. 4)there are some medical conditions (molar pregnancy) that can cause persistently elevated hormone levels. 5)the surgeon may not have completed the abortion (still an ongoing pregnancy). Possible but unlikel: Unlikely, but u need to make sure that your beta HCG went all the way down to less than 5 after the ectopic because depending on what type of surgery u had need to make sure no ectopic tissue was left behind, if beta is neg then that is good if beta is + and it is from the ectopic then u may need Methotrexate to dissolve the rest of the ectopic tissue please call your gyn. ...Read more
