Low chance : Chance of pregnancy is less than 1 out of 100 each year with Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud. Remember that periods are lighter and can be irregular with that iud. That being said, if you think you might be pregnant and especially if you have pregnancy symptoms check a pregnancy test. ...Read more

Pregnancy (Definition)

When your due date arrives, you will be more than ready to have your baby! Most women deliver the baby somewhere between 37 and 42 weeks. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

Avg cycle don't know when ovulation happened but if had sex on day 9 of my cycle, what are the chances of pregnancy? Had mirena (levonorgestrel) removed a month prior.

Avg cycle don't know when ovulation happened but if had sex on day 9 of my cycle, what are the chances of pregnancy? Had mirena (levonorgestrel) removed a month prior.

It is possible: If you are not currently on birth control and you have unprotected intercourse, you can get pregnant. The average length of cycle is 28 days, making days 9-14 the most fertile. Your doctor can help determine your pattern, taking into account your past cycle pattern , including when you were using the iud. The closer you have sex to the time you ovulate, the greater the chance of becoming pregnant. ...Read more

Is it possible to have non ectopic pregnancy on Mirena (levonorgestrel) I.U.D.? And would it cause a negative pregnancy test?

Is it possible to have non ectopic pregnancy on Mirena (levonorgestrel) I.U.D.? And would it cause a negative pregnancy test?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD/Ectopics: An intrauterine pregnancy is almost impossible to implant if the Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is not expired. An ectopic pregnancy in another location like Fallopian tube or peritoneum is more likely, but not with repeated negative pregnancy tests and no other symptoms. ...Read more

What are some signs of an ectopic pregnancy? 22yo, mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD 2 1/2 years. Lower r. Pain near hipbone and into groin area. Ct scan said not appendicit

C MD: If you are concerned about a possible ectopic pregnancy then you need to be checked immediately. Did they not do a pregnancy test before the ct scan? Other things like cysts, endometriosis, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, hernias can all cause those symptoms but most are detectable on a ct or a pelvic ultrasound. A muscular strain or injury would not. Get it checked. ...Read more

Period is 28 days late, neg test with no symptoms of pregnancy. Have had mirena IUD for 1.5 yr. Usually consistent periods. When should I call my doc?

No cause for alarm: Since your Mirena IUD is one of the most effective contraceptive methods and its hormones can decrease or eliminate your "vaginal bleeding" for months, the absence of "menstrual periods" is usually no cause for alarm. Your risks of pregnancy are very small and the possibility of a medical problem is remote; your "neg pregnancy test" is and may remain the only reassurance you need. ...Read more

It is past time for my mirena (levonorgestrel) to be removed and I have been having all the pregnancy symptoms. Can mirena (levonorgestrel) cause false negative for home pregnancy test?

It is past time for my mirena (levonorgestrel) to be removed and I have been having all the pregnancy symptoms. Can mirena (levonorgestrel) cause false negative for home pregnancy test?

No, unlikely: Today's home pregnancy tests are very accurate and not affected by foods, herbs, common illnesses, sexually transmitted diseases, vaginal spotting, or medications. A test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (or when conception might have happened) or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a negative result may be due to testing too early, such as less than 2 weeks after conception. ...Read more

Is there an increased risk of stroke in subsequent pregnancies or with Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUS use if I developed migraine w aura at 3 weeks post partum?

Mirena (levonorgestrel) and Migraines: As with all medications, there is always risk and caution should be observed with use of any form of birth control. I'm getting pregnancy symptoms with the mirena, (levonorgestrel) I know I'm not pregnant as test came out negative, is this normal? Need to put mind at ease..

Normal: Mirena (levonorgestrel) has progesterone as its active ingredient. Most of it acts locally but a small amount is absorbed. In sensitive women, this can cause pregnancy-like symptoms. Progesterone was named because levels rise during pregnancy and this helps support the pregnancy. Progesterone is one reason pregnant women feel the way they do. Best wishes! ...Read more
