Pregnancy (Definition)

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

33 weeks 4 days pregnant, did scan &findings - gestational age 32-33 wks, placentalocation : posterior, grade : 2 please help what the grade 2 mean?Is ok?

Yes - it's ok: Cat: as you progress through your pregnancy, the placenta will mature/age. Grade 2 is about right for this stage in your pregnancy. It will show some increased calcification and mature even further to grade 3 prior to delivery. So it is just a way of grading the age/maturity of the placenta. Good luck to you. ...Read more

2 prev. Miscarriages. Now 5+4 weeks. Hcg @ 4 +4=86. 5 days later=404. Any dr's seen healthy pregnancies with these low #'s?

Yes: The normal range of HCG in early pregnancy is very wide. More important is the rise in the HCG level. We expect it to rise by 66% every 48 hours. Yours seems on track. Best to continue to follow the hcgs and have an ultrasound in about 1 week. ...Read more

1.8-2.3 w (6) mature follies w inj, 36 mil 97% post wash, IUI w trigger. 3 prior easy pregnancies. Do we have any decent chance ?

You have chance: But not for too long. 37 mil is a bit low; 97% is good. Ivf, embryo freeze, perhaps? If you are 49, available follies are coming to an end. ...Read more

Hcg level of 3866, 2 + hpts, but no evidence of pregnancy 2 abdominal and vaginal ultrasound. + symptoms, missed period (last one on 09/10/14). Help ?

Repeat the scan: It sounds like this is a very early pregnancy. I'd suggest a repeat quantitative HCG in 48-72 Hr. after the first by which time it should double in a normal pregnancy and repeat the ultrasound next week. Good luck. ...Read more

Trust your doc: as the most important number you gave me was the platelets. Vitamins are vitamins and can always be supplemented. After the first trimester, the numbers may change for the better or worse. But keep the close relationship with your doctor is vital. ...Read more

Is there any link to pcos and hellp ? Ttc for 2 yr , got pregnant with metformin , emergency C-section at 26 weeks due to severe hellp. 25% of reccura

Yes, not METFORMIN: Diabet med. 2004 aug;21(8):829-36. Metformin, pre-eclampsia, and pregnancy outcomes in women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Could a child w developmental delay be diagnosed w high functioning autism w ADHD & gdd/asperger all at the same time?

Poly-dx: While some developmental diagnoses speak to different areas of development (e.g., cognitive delay, social disability like autism) it is unlikely (and in the case of autism and aspergers) or even inappropriate to diagnose all you listed as co-existing. Seek a second opinion from a developmental pediatrician and/or early childhood psychologist. ...Read more

Blighted Ovum: from your description it sounds like you have what is called a blighted ovum. This means there is a yolk sac that is empty. You have a decreasing hcg and an empty sac. There is not a viable pregnancy. This is an unlikely misdiagnosis with both of these pieces of information. I am truly sorry. ...Read more

When are the tests in pregnancy that look for disabilities?

When are the tests in pregnancy that look for disabilities?

Depends on type: Some genetic conditions that are associated with disabilities can be detected by studies of the fetal blood or amniotic fluid, obtained by amniocentesis. Others might be suspected based on ultrasound imaging of the fetus. In addition, an examination of the newborn by a medical geneticist can provide further information. But often there's no test that can predict type or extent of later disability. ...Read more
