Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more
No: Generally speaking, no. It may help you sleep, but it may make your nightmares worse. Psychotherapy and different medications like Clonidine or prazosin can help with nightmares. Can help: Atarax (hydroxyzine, also sold as vistiril) is a sedating antihistamine. In addition to relieving anxiety, it can also help allergic itching, nausea, & motion sickness. It is non-addictive but can cause drowsiness & other (mostly minor) side-effects. See: http://www.Ncbi.Nlm.Nih.Gov/pubmedhealth/pmh0000796/. ...Read more

45 mg remeron, 200 Seroquel (bedtime) 90 Cymbalta (duloxetine) 500 Valtrex 1800 gabapentin 7.5 zopiclone (bed) why am I so tired, exhausted falling asleep at work?
Yes: This is called "rem rebound". Dreaming mostly happens during rem (rapid eye movement) sleep, and rem is suppressed by many anxiety medications. Weaning off such meds results in a temporary over-activity of rem, sometimes causing nightmares, or at least more memorable, vivid dreams. It usually doesn't last long, and is harmless aside from being disturbing & interrupting sleep. ...Read more

Unlikely temporary: You are likely experiencing anti-cholinergic side effects from the medication, which is a bit uncommon with gabapentin, but unlikely to improve readily on its own. However, you may well be inordinately sensitive to such reactions, and might be well to check for underlying structural brain issue which results in this effect. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Possibly so: Trouble sleeping, as well as vivid and unusual dreams can occur when taking Inderal (propranolol). Worsening of depression can also be a side effect. Other medications and underlying medical conditions may interfere with sleep. You list being on Klonopin - is that being prescribed for anxiety? Persistent mood and anxiety symptoms impair one's ability to sleep, as well as the quality of sleep. Hope this helps. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I am on Lexapro (escitalopram) for depression but still suffer from ptsd bipolar 2 psychosis anxiety sleep problems racing thoughts agitation what meds could help me?
1/2 soma, melatonin, mobic (meloxicam) & Mucinex taken at bedtime. Have sleep apnea controlled w/ cpap, fibro. Having dreams so vivid I confuse them w/ reality!?
Alcohol?: What you are describing happens when you wake up from rem sleep. Melatonin has nothing to do with it, it is not an fda approved medication, and I am not sure why you are taking it. None of the medications you listed is expected to cause vivid dreams. Alcohol, and certain sleeping pills could do that. Recovering from sleep deprivation (long work nights) can precipitate it. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Added 10 mg nortriptyline (nummular headache) to 50 mg trazodone (insomnia) with 60 mg cymbalta (duloxetine) (migraine). Felt dizzy, drugged & weak so stopped trazodone. Feel better, but can't sleep. What to do?
Insomnia: A poor sleep technic perhaps. Insomnia can occur when the environment where you sleep does not facilitate this important process. Make sure you have no distractions in the room like a tv, laptop. Ipad, smart phones, books, etc. . If still having problems may consider evaluation for restless leg syndrome or depression. Exercise during the day, not at night. Tell your physician about side effects. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
