Prednisone For One Month
Hello, I have taken prednisone for 1 month: 60 mg during 2 weeks and 35 mg now. ... My lipase level is 1.4 times the max. Could it be correlated?
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more

Can one gain weight on 5 mg prednisone daily for several months if they watch their diet and exercise? Can I still lose while on this?
Work on it: Corticosteroids like the Prednisone do have a tendency to cause weight gain. You are on the right track if you can watch your calories and exercise. The medication may increase your appetite, so it will take discipline. Eat healthy. The provider prescribing the medicine may be able to advise you on diet and exercise to reduce the possibility of weight gain. ...Read more

Multiple causes:: Allergies, food intolerance, chemicals or solvents, stress, tension, anxiety and idiopathic (unknown cause) or iatrogenic (as a result of a medication reaction. I assume that you have already had comprehensive allergy testing by a board certified allergist? I would also suggest a full internal medicine exam and blood/urine testing to rule out underlying illness. ...Read more

My husband has had erectile dysfunction for 8 months. He takes lodine, (etodolac) prednisone, vicodin 10/325. Which one is causing the ED or is it all three?
Who know?: All possible, but to pinpoint which one is the culprit, one has to painstakingly verify, record, and correlate the timing of onset of ed with the timing of starting a drug. Meanwhile, the general health, current medical illness, lifestyle with/without overindulgence and obsession, etc. Have to be comprehensively assessed so a reasonable accurate diagnosis can be reached for proposing treatment. ...Read more
Seven months after cataract surgery on my right eye, I developed CME. I have been using Prednisone and Bromday twice a day. I also had a Kenalog injection a week ago, although colors are more vivid in one eye. Treatment of Cystoid Macula Edema?
Short term steroids:
There should be no problem unless you have diabetes or pre diabetes in which case your blood sugars will rise significantly.
Also if you have hypertension it will elevate it while on the prednisone.
At your age in the absence of ongoing medical problems it should be perfectly safe. ...Read more
In theory, yes.:
In general, it doesn't matter whether you take Prednisone all at once or in divided doses. However, 100 mg is a fairly high dose and side effects are going to be more likely. The answer right way to take it may differ depending on the illness being treated, the size of the patient, or other medical issues involved.
I recommend checking with your doctor to be sure. ...Read more

I took one 20 mg of prednisone, I had the sensation of a caffeine high for a moment. How long will this dosage stay in my system.
Risky? It depends::
It is not necessarily risky to take prednisone for 12 days.
If it's appropriately prescribed for a corticosteroid responsive condition, and if you have no contraindication to prednisone, it is not risky. Relative contraindications include Diabetes, active peptic ulcer, on high dose NSAIDS or on medication with drug interactions with prednisone. If only on it for 12 days no need to tapper dose. ...Read more

Have taken prednisone before, took 2 tablets for 5 days, 20mg, done for one day now, still have tensesion pain in temples and in head.
See below: I suspect that perhaps your physician felt you were having what is called a cluster headache. If so, the lack of response may indicate the diagnosis is incorrect or just that the medication doesn't work in every case. See or speak to your physician, who knows you best, and given your lack of improvement he will change his plan of treatment. ...Read more
Prescribed cyclobenzaprine (10mg) one a day at night, etodolac (500mg) 2x a day and prednisone (20mg) 2 tablets daily. Are these meds ok to mix?
Maybe: Cyclobenzaprine is a muscle relaxer, and works with either of the other two. I prefer not to mix the steroid (prednisone) with the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (etodolac), as one can potentiate the other's side effects. It's done sometimes though. I tend to use the steroid acutely, for a short period of time, the use non-steroidals. ...Read more
I was prescribed Adco-amoxyclav, Betamox 500mg and Prednisone 5. Can I finish one of these and then the other one once I'm done. I'm struggling with Diarrhea with all of them together.
Call your doctor: Both the Adco-amoxyclav and the Betamox contain amoxicillin. I am not sure why you are on both at the same time, unless there was a need to increase your dose of amoxicillin above the amount in the adco-amoxyclav. Call your prescriber to find out what you can do to alleviate the diarrhea. Taking them separately for a longer period of time will not likely help. ...Read more
What is the difference between prednisone and naproxyen for a dislocated shoulder. What does each one do. Why am I taking them?
Ask the doctor: Prednisone and naprosyn (naproxen) are both antiinflammatory agents. Prednisone is a corticosteroid while naprosyn (naproxen) is a nonsteroidal agent. Why don't you just ask the doctor who prescribed them why they are used together. I generally do not prescribed them at the same time. ...Read more
