Prednisone Effects On Blood Sugar
Does taking prednisone eye drops have the same side effects like po prednisone? (Weight gain, blood sugar increase, insomnia, and irritability.)
Prednisone is a synthetic cortisone. The body makes cortisone, a natural hormone made in adrenal glands. The body converts it to Hydrocortisone to become active. 25 mg of cortisone has about same effect as 5 mgm prednisone. The average person would produce 3-6 mg of pred daily. So why use a substitute? The synthetic has more anti-inflammatory effect; but has less effect ...Read more
Synthetic sugar: I'm not sure what you mean by synthetic, but if you're referring to things like high fructose corn syrup, for example, then yes, this can affect blood sugar in those with diabetes/hypoglycemia. Consuming calories will affect blood sugar sooner or later (esp with diabetes). If i did not understand your question properly, please explain and resubmit. I would be happy to look at it again. ...Read more

I'm diagnosed hypoglycemic. Can Creatine supplementation effect insulin in my body causing hypoglycemia effects(low blood sugar)?
Usually no: Metformin is an excellent diabetes medication because it lowers your blood sugar by making you more sensitive to your own insulin, but it will not allow your glucose to go low. Other diabetes medications (glyburide or other sulfonylureas; insulin) can give you hypoglycemia. If your sugars are "low", maybe you don't need the metformin. Has something changed from when you were started (eg wt loss)? ...Read more

Likely pushes it up: RTDs (ready to drink) such a bourbon & cola, vodka & lemonade are extremely high in sugar and will raise your blood sugar levels dramatically. Cider is also considered high in glucose. Wine and beer cause less of a spike in sugar levels but still contain a lot of calories. Alcohol in excess will prevent diabetic medications from working so will make blood glucose go up. http://www.alcohol.org.nz ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Can stress effect blood sugar levels - lowering them? Not diabetic. Usual breakfast of miniwheats giving me reactive hypoglycemia all week.
Stress increases: Glucose. I have never seen a real case of reactive hypoglycemia. The disorder doesn't exist, if you're overweight the symptoms are a natural response to your glucose level returning to normal. A glucose tolerance test (if you've had one) is not and never will be a valid diagnostic test for hypoglycemia. Don't waste your money o GTT or any fad diets of treatments. Lose wt if heavy. ...Read more
